People aren’t reading the article apparently based on the questions about Wash.

The animated series would be set between the events of the 2002 series and the 2005 big-screen continuation, Serenity

It’s not like the movie cared all that much about continuity either. They should just ignore it entirely. Or as someone else I saw said, consider it just a fever dream during Out of Gas.

Yeah, I hated the movie ending.

Of course, I thought that the hiatus would be short.

But I’m fine stroking it from the record wholly and just picking up where season 2 should’ve been.

Have no one mention age increase.

Ah, so this is the special announcement. It’s probably easier to schedule voice recordings than full, on set live action.

I wonder what animation style they’ll use.

They could have filmed it Arrested Development style. “What do you mean, ask Wash? He’s at the other end of our modest ship!”

Huh, not what I was expecting. It looks like rotoscope, which while a cool look, it seems unlikely that the cast would be planning to fully act out episodes in person (though maybe they are, which would be kinda cool). If they’re just doing it for the look without the real life acting, that seems like a whole heap of extra effort that would bog down production. Is it possible that the final look will be significantly different?

It’s been a while since I’ve seen archer, but I think the firefly designs are more detailed.

We’ll probably have to wait until a trailer to see if they stay this detailed for the actual show.

    Original cast set to return

I’d be ok if there was at least one exclusion there…

It’s been over 20 years, if they did live action they’d have to probably ruin it by aging up every character 20 years. Also have to tone down action or else have them “mentor” a younger crew, which would probably also ruin it.

Animation could be very good. I don’t get why you’d immediately be dismissive.

As various franchises have played with how to resurrect an “older” franchise, extending the original cast seems to be the winner, but this show wouldn’t survive the age up probably.

If a show can pull off 20 year older characters it would be firefly. Could be an interesting scenario really.

I don’t like animation, never have and probably never will. I will of course give it a try and if others like it good for them. For me, personally, it’s very disappointing.

I just don’t know, they’d have to be pretty different, or else have their life paths be ‘stunted’. There’s 20 years of off-camera developments to reconcile. 20s to early 30s characters versus 40s to 50s really should be in very different places in their lives.

Besides, looks like they are bringing back Alan Tudyk, so for that they pretty much have to be set before the movie. Or else pull some Palpatine crap.

Is it just me or are voice acting and acting two different skill sets not every actor has? Love to be wrong but I am not sure it will translate well.

I mean, they are different skills, but the cast of Firefly is pretty heavily stacked with people who do a LOT of voice acting. I don’t think it’ll be an issue.

Like, name a recent Disney movie that didn’t have Alan Tudyk in it.

Many of the original cast are regular voice actors in games and animated series. I have zero worries in that regard. They were an extremely talented crew.

Alan Tudyk will just have to stand in for everyone else as well, he already voices every 3rd Disney character.

And I would absolutely watch it.

They are different but do feed into each other. When voice acting for a character, actors will be on camera, and they will be acting the part while talking into the mic. Animators will incorporate a lot of the voice actors’ mannerisms, facial expressions, and motions into their final product because it makes the animation much more life-like. Its more than just sitting blankly in front of a mic.

I’ll take it, but what I really need right now is Nathan Fillion to ditch The Rookie asap and get back into sci-fi.

Maybe he can reprise Captain Hammer and do a song and dance number in the Superhero Retirement Home.
