Unlike zombies, they avoid all kind of brain matter.

As far as I’m aware, originally it was a horror-themed critique of mindless consumerism (which is why malls are the most common backdrop). Could be wrong, but that’s what I remember reading.

I’ve also heard this, but I can’t find the source. Something about the horror of being the only sane people left in an insane world, and slowly watching the ones you love fall to the other side.

This is a dumb comparison. It’s apparently frowned upon to attack idiots with flame throwers, baseball bats or chainsaws. I can’t use my Left4Dead skills against idiots at all.

The Cranberries song “Zombies” isn’t about actual zombies. It’s about people who think like zombies.

This one is worse. Zombies don’t vote fascists into power. Generally speaking Zombies are not very politically motivated. They also don’t complain about “woke” all the time.

Fascists would love a zombie apocalypse though - endless scapegoating and people would cheer for draconian security.

I find this sort of perspective wildly unhelpful…

People are manipulated, misguided, ignorant. We need to educate and help… Calling them idiots and comparing them to zombies feels so reductive. It’s like you don’t think they can change or be convinced.

Hey. A zombie apocalypse isn’t out of the question. Maybe after Trump completely guts the CDC and FDA we’ll have a zombie virus.

I’ve been calling it the moron apocalypse for many years. If you go by some very old definitions, idiots don’t have the mental capability to survive on their own. Morons can survive, and apparently ascend to positions of power, including some of the arguably most powerful people in the world.

The people who are driving and profiting from capitalism are not necessarily idiots. But they are definitely extremely rich/privileged.
