Ugh, just reminds me of so many awful 2 way stops that should be 4 way stops in my area.

Driving around is so random on whether it’s a 4 way stop, you stop but other road doesn’t, or you go but other road stops.

I live right next to one of the worst ones. Have witnessed literally 4 accidents at it, and almost had a car hit me while walking once. Just blew through the stop sign that’s not very visible when cars are parked there.

Worst part. This whole area is hilly and filled with cars parked on the road. So, if you DO stop on the 2 way stop, you have to inch forward to see, and hope a massive SUV doesn’t come speeding down the hill when you inch long enough to see if it’s safe.

All of this solved by, say it with me, CONSISTENCY. Make everything a 4 way stop. There is nowhere near enough traffic to justify anything else.

I mean, when I worked for Cisco and they sold the exact same hardware as an “upgrade” to older hardware I saw this first hand.

We literally had sections in the code that would check the EEPROM for a flag to enable the upgrade through software. Literally the same hardware with a single bit in the EEPROM being swapped from a 1 to a 0. So we could sell the same hardware twice.

People are capable of change. But until that change actually occurs we can’t live in a world in which we try to save them at the cost of other good people.

There is a difference between trying to change the average American and remove their reactionary ideas and an ICE agent. We should waste zero effort in caring about “saving” ICE. They are Nazis. And should be treated as such.

We are currently in the “shame” phase of ICE. We have quickly moved passed trying to use the liberal state to fight them. The Democratic party has made it clear they won’t. So now we are in the peaceful protest and shame phase.

When filming them becomes illegal. When insulting them is considered inciting violence. There will be no peaceful means left.

That would require a system of justice that actually functioned for the human rights it claims to.

And, well, at this point - that would first require a movement that is unapologetic in what it must do to stop Nazis. We can’t get to the state you want yet. We don’t have the resources to treat every ICE agent with a form of justice you are describing. Not until power is taken from the hands of those that rule us.

We can imagine a world after they are defeated. We can struggle to obtain that world. But, in the mean time, something needs to be done with violent Nazis when we are able to do so.

You need to not only ask “what is just” but also “what is the most just treatment that is possible”. A lot of time - that means you have to take out the trash.

Image analysis. When a video is modified it is often pretty simple to tell if there are inconsistencies from an image captured under real world conditions using a camera lense.

It’s pretty simple to trick the human eye these days. But it’s significantly more difficult to modify a real world videos and perform “in-painting” (the more general term for a face swap) without obvious inconsistencies appearing.

It’s significantly easier to detect these inconsistencies than it is to perform in-painting that doesn’t have these inconsistencies.

It’s not 100% deterministic. But it is enough to conclude that it is more likely than not a digitally modified image/video.

Video is MUCH easier to conclude as fake or real too. Because, unlike an image, the in-painting needs to not only work consistently to real world conditions and match the surroundings throughout, but it also has to match seemlessly and naturally to every single frame one after another.

The specific techniques are usually dependent on the video. But sometimes something as simple as increasing the contrast on an image can really expose that the pixels of an in-painted portion are not behaving how the surrounding pixels are.

If you’re interested I found a journal paper that goes over it. Haven’t read it myself. But will likely after this comment. But just looking at the images in it can give you an idea of what the image analysis would be looking at.
