Linux@lemmy.ml•Help me understand the workflow for cloning dotfiles after a fresh install without hosting dotfiles in the cloud
1·2 天前I use a post-install script that sets up some system level stuff for me for my void linux install, everything else on top of that is declared through nix + home manager, but this is probably not what the average linux users’ setup looks like lol (also yes the install script and my nix configuration, dotfiles and everything sits in a git repo).
So far i’ve only seen it when looking at gentoo install videos. I’ve never seen it show up on any of the distros i’ve used.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
1·4 天前I don’t know what refreshrate you’re using, but from my understanding if you go above 4k60hz it doesn’t run in full rgb colorspace anymore, because the amd drivers only support up to hdmi 2.0, so even when the hardware supports it, hdmi 2.1 bandwidth can’t be used.
Hmm, i didn’t know ubuntu was using a different shell. I’ve used it a few times in a vm. Other than that i installed it on my laptop once like 15 years ago lol.
I never tried anything other than bash tbh. Not sure if i should. I never really looked into what i might be missing out on with a different shell. Bash just works so i never felt like messing around with it.
This project looks really cool. I already have my own more minimal rice, but i might have to check this out anyway lol.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
1·5 天前Yeah it turned out that lockdown mode was enabled. Disabling it fixed the issue. I guess i can’t really put the blame on windows this time lol

3·5 天前Yeah but not with all its features. Usually you have to sacrifice vrr, which is a dealbreaker for me.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
7·6 天前For me it’s hdmi 2.1 on AMD. Starting to really hate my decision of buying a TV as a gaming display, purely because of how much windows sucks. Just booted it up to see if my samba server was working, only to find it has no internet connection whatsoever. Wifi also connects but no internet access, but i know for a fact it’s working because both on linux and my phone it’s working fine. Already tried a bunch of troubleshooting, including resetting the adapters competely. I’m starting to suspect the mullvad vpn app somehow fucked something up, because i’m not connected to their servers right now because i haven’t added more time to my account. Internet should work if i disable the vpn app though, so idk what’s wrong there.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•shopping for a controller in 2026 - where to you guys actually buy things?English
3·6 天前This post made me realize that i guess i"m not that picky when it comes to controllers. I’ve mostly used playstation controllers all my life because i’ve been a console gamer since i was a kid, even now with a gaming pc i still have a ps5 as well. Playstation controllers have always been fine to me. Also have a switch pro controller for my switch which is fine as well. When i go back to ps4 or 3 controllers i do notice that the dualsense is the most comfortable in comparison, but after using an old dualshock for a while i can easily get used to it again.
Also, i might just be very lucky, but i’ve never experienced stickdrift on any of the controllers i’ve owned. The only wear and tear issues i’ve ever had was the rubber from the joysticks on my ds2 being completely degraded, which makes sense after all those years, and my ds4 had the button on the inside of the trigger break down. Ended up replacing that and it worked again. I should probably get some new rubber sticks from aliexpress for my ds2 as well. Would be nice to restore it since it’s the only legit ds2 i have, and it still worked fine from what i remember.
Looks like it’s a fork of the original project.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•when I forget to end the torrent because I'm babysitting Rufus
13·9 天前Based transmission enjoyer (unless it’s the qt version /j).
Yeah, i had the same issue when i decided to buy a LG OLED C5 as my monitor a few months ago. The silly thing is i had already heard about this being a problem before buying it but forgot about it. I ended up swapping my dualboot around and give windows the bigger SSD for all my games, since i really didn’t want to live without high refresh and vrr. I also didn’t want to return the tv because it was a better deal than any monitor at that size, plus it has more features. Pretty much had to give up linux gaming though ;(. I did a lot of research into adapters but all of them are finicky at best and still miss some features like vrr, so it is what it is.
Well see that’s your problem right there, you’re using ubuntu /j
Me logging in automatically but having my lockscreen autostart when my window manager starts (i just do it because it makes the login transition smoother compared to a display manager, and i’m the only person who uses my pc anyway).

Linux@lemmy.ml•Wayland, Switching between & focusing windows with just hotkeys?
0·1 个月前I think Mangowm and maybe even base dwl have a feature like this, where it shows you windows from other workspaces as well in an overview and you can switch between them, but not entirely sure because i personally don’t use it much aside from trying it once or twice.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Does it ever bother some of you that "I'm switching to Linux!" is just more of a way to appear rebellious than actually committing to the choice?
1·2 个月前I guess i’m not commited enough lol. I didn’t want to pay out the ass for a similar sized monitor either, that would’ve still had less features as well. The tv was just way more versatile, aside from the dp thing, especially since i also still play on consoles. I saw you deleted your other comment, but no, there aren’t any good adapters that can actually provide all the features i want to use, including vrr, so i just can’t see that working. Maybe these issues will be resolved at some point in the future, and i can move most of my gaming back to linux, but for now it’s mostly going to be productivity, and i still daily drive it on my laptop since that thing can barely play games anyway.

Oh lol, if that’s the case then it got me good.
