Autism@lemmy.world•Dear Autism, please tell me about your "low-demand" lifestyleEnglish
10·4 months agoI never really thought of it as “low-demand” but that’s a surpisingly practical way to phrase it, framing your decisions, lifestyle, and personal living spaces to be less mentally taxing and “economic” in that sense.
Broadly, it’s resembles minimalism but a significant balance with practicality rather than aesthetics (it’s a bonus). As other’s have said “less decisions and a readily achieved default state”. Some examples:
- Limited number of clothes that mix and match with one another. If I get new clothes, I’ll alway donate an equal amount to keep it limited.
- Schedule in general to reduced decisions but most helpful was meals and meal prepping.
- Bedroom and office have minimal furnishing/clutter so it’s easy to clean up and incredibly easy to return to that default state and peace of mind.
Laundry, cleaning, and errands become less demanding (less clothes, easy to clean) in that sense which leaves mental room to explore new ideas one at a time.

Not the labels per se but being able to identify patterns and processes can be a comfort and even helpful if you have the right guidance and support system.
For example, identifying habitual masking (even when unnecessary) and making the decision not to mask can be helpful when socialising by conserving energy and making them more meaningful without the doubt and shame of “faking it”. Also giving yourself credit for feeling emotions and stimuli intensely and deciding for yourself to move away from to self-regulate.
The “label” should be foremost for you, hence why some don’t feel comfortable getting an official diagnosis (especially in the U.S.)

Political Memes@lemmy.world•They're Just Not That Into YouEnglish
91·7 months agoSurface-level I get it but, similar to the McGuire Spider-Man glasses meme, the original context reverses the message awkwardly (Don is notoriously insecure about his image and power dynamic and had spent the entire episode trying to figure out how to one-up his younger co-worker)
eighty@aussie.zonetoShowerthoughts@lemmy.world•Due to the bystander effect its highly unlikely any stranger would help you if you got attacked in a public spaceEnglish
1·7 months agoBystander Effect occurs when specific conditions are met and is not just a prevailing rule of human behavior.
The original incident that inspired this phenomenon was shown to be overly exaggerated to reinforce the idea of the inherently violent and apathetic human - which does sell well in newspapers back then and social media now.
If the attack was non-ambiguous, percieved as a high danger/emergency, against the social order/ group cohesion, and bystanders feels competent - do you think you wouldn’t get help? Stop being sold that you are alone and everyone else are apathetic uncaring “humans”, humans legitimately wouldn’t have gotten this far as a species without helping one another.

2·8 months agoit’s a big ask for anyone so I’d recommend, if they’re open to it, reading the manga up until at least the end of the Arlong Park arc. I’d make the argument that’s the earliest point to determine whether OP is for you and continue the huge read/watch ahead.
If it is, I’d encourage you to read in sections based on arcs and revisit your personal favourite arcs in the anime. The thing with the anime is it’s mostly been weekly (limited budget and fluffing) so until the Wano arc (which has happened recently in it’s over 20 years syndication), the animation isn’t quite consistent.
I have more to say but wouldn’t want to overwhelm you but essentially it’s small steps and you’ll see what the fuss is about, especially since we’re nearing the endgame.

9·9 months agoOff topic but I found Another Crab’s Treasure to be the perfect game to ease back into the genre. does that say Io or is it actually 10 moths forming one mega moth? Please I need a win today

Side tangent but I felt like this one scene drastically (albeit not clear at the time) shifted the tone/direction for the rest of the MCU going forth - just for essentially a light chuckle and mild worldbuilding (illustrating the insignificance of the world/timelines ikik).
Looking back and seeing what’s been (barely) done, I wonder if those writers would’ve gone with that same direction?
