  • I’m not going to claim to be a privacy/security expert here, but I think the question is “safe from who/what?” Privacy is a sliding scale with diminishing returns, so you need to set your expectations according to the level of effort you are willing to put in.

If you just want to not be tracked/profiled by commercial big data or standard governmental operations, then an old phone with no sim, wifi/bluetooth turned off, and using wired headphones removes you from a couple tiers of lowest-hanging fruit.

But if you think someone is specifically and actively tracking you in particular, that is a whole other question.

  • “Decentralized network of forums” is probably the best way I’ve heard it described, as an elder millennial who grew up on multiple disparate forums.

The email analogy doesn’t resonate with me because I, as a Gmail user have less than nothing in common with any other Gmail user. On the other hand, the idea of being able to log into my car enthusiast forum and interact seamlessly with people from a video game enthusiast forum is much closer to how I think the ideal Lemmy experience would go.

  • Honestly, I don’t think your edit is crazy at all. I have a hunch that all the fake, filtered, AI-processed, vtuber’d social media is going to result in a sharp backlash soon. Kind of like how over-the-top, image-focused glam and heavy metal of the 80s spawned a backlash in the rawer, more “real” feel of grunge and stripped down alt-rock in the 90s.

Maybe that desire for reality will be one of the triggers for the AI bubble bursting.

  • Cold air tends to be very dry, which can most definitely irritate your nose and throat (among other body parts). That irritation and drying out can make the thin skin and mucous membranes more vulnerable to attack from bacteria and viruses.

The only really unscientific part of your post is that the cold air itself is not the direct cause of illness.

People with a strong immune system might not see a big difference, but if you are already more susceptible to getting sick, then the link to cold air may be more obvious to you.

  • Having been surprised to see Tool twice in this thread, I think you hit the nail on the head.

Between Maynard’s voice, and the basslines OP mentioned, they definitely have a distinctive sound, and I could see how it could blur together as background / casual listening music. Especially if you listen to mostly mixes ot playlists.

Personally, I almost exclusively listen to music by album, and I think thats where Tool’s songs really become more distinct from each other.

  • Maybe controversial, but despite the rye chips being far and away my favorite part of Gardettos, I actually prefer the mix because then the rye chips are that much tastier when you hit one.

Or maybe its the same kind of illness/cope that causes me to say things like “I actually enjoy living in the midwest, where we get to experience all 4 seasons, versus someplace that’s pleasant and warm all year”
