News@lemmy.world•Trump’s Acting A.G. Says He Won’t Release Even One More Epstein File
11·21 hours agoIn the current context, where we’re explicitly talking about Epstein and his network of suppliers and customers, we can reasonably infer this and realize that it’s a weird fucking time to lionize the celibate pedophile.

Linux@lemmy.world•"Ageless Linux" is a distro created to openly defy California age-gating "law."English
2·22 hours agoThose of us who lived through the Microsoft vs Linux debacle know that you don’t need a large, popular distribution to manufacture a legal challenge. All you need is something that effectively undermines the opposition’s legal basis.
I am not sure open source can reproduce the “LinkedIn experience”. I’m also not sure that’s a huge loss. That place is a dumpster fire on a steep hill.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump says he’s considering ‘joint venture’ with Iran for Strait of Hormuz tollsEnglish
121·5 days agoGosh, I wonder what Iran thinks about that idea? The article has this to say:
Any “joint venture” was not part of Iran’s 10-point peace plan that the U.S. agreed to and the president previously called “workable.”
And that’s it! Guess this one is still in the “concept of a plan” phase.

News@lemmy.world•US has let in 4,499 refugees since October - all but three were South African
2643·6 days agoWell yeah, because of the active genocide against white Afrikaners.
Conversely, there’s nothing of interest going on in Afghanistan and the US has no obligations to any sympathizers or collaborators there, so I’m not sure why we’re letting 3 people flood our country.
Edit: this is sarcasm. Can’t believe I need to say it.

World News@lemmy.world•Artemis II crew reflects on historic mission before splashdown on FridayEnglish
10·6 days agoTIL that objects re-entering the atmosphere vary considerably in their initial velocities, and that ones from further out (e.g. lunar visits) tend to be much faster than those from LEO. It’s not intuitively surprising, but I’d assumed that given the “narrow window” used for re-entry, all objects needed to dump enough velocity to arrive in a fairly tight band.
This is sick. People, the man is dead, and none of us will ever know for sure how big his face was.
Does it support unit dependencies? That’s pretty much the only reason I use systemd outside of work. Edit: ah yeah it sure does. I know what I’m playing with next weekend.

News@lemmy.world•Trump delivers jaw-dropping and slurred Iran address that offers no end in sight to unpopular war

Programming@programming.dev•The Claude Code Source Leak: 512,000 Lines, a Missing .npmignore, and the Fastest-Growing Repo in GitHub History
10·15 days agoYeah, I had a good laugh at this. Half of the commits I review are coauthored by Claude, a fact that I’m sure Anthropic is thrilled to claim, but this colossal fuck up was obviously the work of a rogue intern or something.

GitHub is teetering on one 9 over an entire quarter. There are serious, systemic problems in Microsoft’s shop.

World News@lemmy.ml•Carney condemns Iran's 'unprovoked attacks'
7·20 days agoThis line of thinking would make a lot more sense if there wasn’t a long, storied history of Trump completely ignoring sycophants when they’re not immediately useful to him. You’d expect someone like Carney to know better. It’s enough to make a person physically cringe.

News@lemmy.world•Senators Demand to Know How Much Energy Data Centers Use
12·20 days agoMakes sense to track this since it’s one of the fastest growing consumers. I think it would also be interesting to track who is buying power infrastructure and in what quantity. Even basic power poles are backordered for years, so I shudder to think about the economic impact of a data center for a blank check tech company clawing in everything they can.

I had no idea he was such an iconic character. My buddy in high school was a gearhead and always had his nose in the latest copy of Jegs, so I was indirectly exposed to RF for years. Pretty cool to see he has a history all the way back to the '50s!
