Is spotube just another client for Spotify? Or what does it do? How is it getting rid of Spotify? You could host navidrome on your NAS and access it via webbrowser. If you don’t like the interface, there are several subsonic alternatives.

I paid around 200€ for a used HP OEM desktop machine. It got a i7 9700 and 32 GB of RAM in it. Still idles at a pretty low power consumption. But I never have to worry about resources, haha. I come from a long history of windows, just recently switched one of my main PCs over to Linux. I like a GUI, still. I got unraid for my server, back when the lifetime licences were still the norm. Makes it really easy to manage services, especially in conjunction with storage (say Immich or Navidrome). Containers and VMs are managed via a GUI and super easy to set up. I work IT-adjacent, but I’m far from being as professional as probably most people here, so this works fine for me.

I started to shift my projects to the digital world and to smaller electronics. Also sports with little equipment needed. No more woodworking, spray painting, cardboard building, or whatever. I had a whole workshop, but didn’t think of the day I might move out of my place that was quire unique in the way it made the workshop possible. Before the workshop I had all that stuff in my room, in good old piles. Now my projects mainly exist in the digital world, where they don’t clutter my everyday live, which is helping me to keep my space tidy, which helps me with general structure a lot.

That’s what I do, but with mailbox.org instead of proton, to name an alternative. They even offer temporary random addresses with the click of a button.

Are you looking for wired or wireless headphones? If wired ones, check out beyerdynamics DT770. Very common model for studio use, spare parts are widely available. Not that portable though. There are different models (pro, pro x) with slightly different features. One offers a detachable cable for example.

A more portable alternative would be Sennheisers HD25, which are THE DJ Headphones. As that, they usually get thrown around a lot but deal with that well. Spare parts are also widely available.

For wireless ones I can only think of the Fairbuds XL, which are constructed in a way to be very easily repairable, including changing the battery.

Every night my NAS wakes up, fetches the data from my unraid server, backs it up and also sends an encrypted backup to a hetzner storage box on a server in a different country. Haven’t had to use it yet, but in theory works fine. Should do some more regular testing though…

I recently switched my phone from Android to GrapheneOS and now rely even more on my selfhosted services. Immich is such a great project. Still gotta figure out my music collection though, since switching from YT Music to Jellyfin. Most of it is sorted by date of purchase, because that worked best with my DJ workflow. Now I gotta bring it over to a folder structure that works for jellyfin. It seems like the answer is musicbrainz Picard, but I gotta figure out how to configure it.

Also been thinking about some AI ideas I’d like to try, but I have zero intention getting involved with openai, meta, google or whoever the fuck. So self hosting it is. But on what hardware? Option 1 seems to be to get some professional server board, CPU, ram and start with one RTX3090 and go from there with the option to hook up more GPUs. But a setup like that sounds like it would cost some serious money in electricity. Option 2 seems to be a Rzyen AI Max+ 395, configured with a fuckton of ram, available to the whole apu and as suchs usable for memory hungry models. This seems to be much much more power efficient. But its all integrated and I couldn’t swap out components or upgrade in the future. Leaning towara option 2 atm, but maybe I’ll just wait a bit longer and see what else comes up in the coming months.

I got some old Futro S920s recently. Put in WiFi/BT, loaded them up with Batocera and some Retro ROM’s and gave them to friends to game on. Setup was super easy.

My router has a great wireguard integration, that makes it pretty easy to tunnel into my home network. I don’t open it to the outside in any other way. But yeah, it does require some maintenance and a backup strategy. I bought an unraid license back when the lifetime ones were still cheap, that makes it pretty easy to work on overall.

Immich is great service to selfhost for photos, paperless ngx is a very nice selfhosted document management system and there are several options for notes. If you use a VPN to connect you phone to your home network you don’t even have to expose any service to the general web.

I was around 12 or 13 and saved all my money for a PS2. Found one on eBay (using my fathers account), won the bid, transfered the money and just never got it. No PS2, no money. But I learned very early not to trust people on the internet. Guess that was worth the price in hindsight.
