Back when I originally dabbled with using Linux on a computer of my own, maybe around year 2003 or so, I didn’t know about rm -rf and was many years from being an adult as well. But I did know about /dev/null, and was really fascinated by the concept of the /dev/ directory!

So, I tried removing a file by

# cat filename > /dev/null  
``` .  
The next time I booted my computer, there was... An error message.  

/dev/null: Not a file

From the perspective of a person who has now used Linux since 1998 (first with only user rights on my parents' computer) this sounds like an absolutely bonkers solution for that problem, but yeah: it's er-em-dash-rm-ef-slash level of error. And those do really happen. It's good to keep in mind what a n00b can be able to do!

Haha, this reminds me of what happened to me when I was around 15 or 16-year-old :D I had just stumbled upon the pages of Union of Freethinkers of Finland (Link to Wikipedia) and had read most of their relatively long page of “Critique on bible”. So, I had spent a couple of hourse reading about ways how the Bible contradicts itself. Then my doorbell rang. And I kept asking these “the Bible is supposed to be interpreted literally” people explanations for why the bible says that “X = 1” here and “X != 1” here, and “Y = 10” here and “Y = 50000” here. Eventually, I think it must have been at least 20 minutes, possibly closer to an hour - hard to say quarter a century afterwards - the chin of one of them started visibly shaking and he started looking really scared. And the other one was starting to look really bad as well. And they basically just abruptly stopped the conversation and without much of “bye!”, just turned out and got away from my door with quite some pace!

I did not know to look for one of them being the “boss”, so I do not know what happened for sure, but now I’m figuring out it probably went so that the more experienced person of those two started to seriously lose their faith and initiated an escape maneuver.

I have watched a couple of them because the only video I have found on some interesting theme has been such a reaction video.

But, I’d say that I do feel kind of comfortable “having someone around” when watching the video. I would still prefer the video without the extra commentator saying things aloud that I can see myself, but I bet there are people who really do get something out of the reaction videos. I’d imagine they are very nice things for the most intoverted among us?

Still, they are there mainly for generating revenue for their makers and for youtube, not so much for some actual need…

They get more money from advertisements if you use the free version. Is an adblocker able to remove the ads from Spotify’s audio fred?

(And if it does, does it block Spotify from getting paid for the ad anyway?)

Using the unpaid version doesn’t really deny Spotify much any income. Better just move completely away to better platforms.

Works about 95 % reliably in Finland, though! And usually if it doesn’t, there’s been a warning saying “we have an exceptionally long queue; calling back might take over a day”. When you hear that, you know there’s a 50% chance that they will never call back. Once the queue gets three days long, they just delete it because so many of the calls would be useless at that point.

Suspended sentences work so that if you trigger the activation of the suspended sentence during the probation time, the whole length of the suspended sentence starts rolling. Therefore, if at 4 years and 11 months of a 5-year probation you do a crime that triggers the activation of your suspended sentence, you sit 7 years. And if you commit the same crime on day 8 of the probation, you still sit the same 7 years.

At least over here in Finland it can also work so that the suspended sentence is only a couple of months for some crimes, but the probation is still 4 years or 6 years or whatever. People often read that “damn, only two months and they are free”, but in reality it means you must spend 5-ish years having to be mindful of not doing any similar-ish, even much less serious, crime or you’ll find yourself sitting behind bars for those two months plus whatever the repeated offence carries.

Wikipedia does list this one under Universities of Applied Science (which, in itself, is not actually the same thing as a university). This university seems like a small organization. And it might exists primarily to scam people.

There are other universities in Berlin that are of good quality. There is no sensible reason to enroll in this weird fake university.

I do not think you’re right in your claim that I’d struggle learning one more language as an adult.

It’s also a myth that children learn languages faster. It takes them about 5 or 6 years to learn their native language at a level we adults would call “fluent”. An adult can do the same in some two years if they have an active approach to the learning.

There is a technique about learning languages. Learn that and learning languages becomes quick.

So, do I have a right to reside in that country?

I assume I’d need to get an alien passport first?
What would be needed as soon as possible is a roof over my head, a source of income and starting to learn the local language.
And then I’d have to figure how to get my children where I am.

I would survive essentially the same way I am surviving now. There is no huge different between how life is in difference countries. I’ve started my life largely anew some five times now, in various countries. All in all, it’s the same experience anywhere.

So, the answer to the question is: Relatively easily.

PieFed and mBin exist. Both do everything Lemmy does, and a bit more. They use less resources as well. What reason would there be for forking Lemmy? The only reason Lemmy is the most popular one among these is that it was the first one. Since then, better things have surfaced.

PieFed is essentially what OP means. It exists, it does everything Lemmy does, and a bit more. And it does it faster, both for the user and for server resources.

Then probably something else will be funded in the same amount. That will be either PieFed or mBin.
