I personally don’t subscribe to the idea of leaders who can’t justify their position. Maybe your problem is that you see socialism as a system to be implemented rather than a thing that you do? Like, socialism is, and should be a constant revolutionary project, not just a static position.

Yeah, except my quote is real, and it was actually made as a promotional item by Microsoft and HP

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else also have this weird feeling that maybe governments can already break into smartphones and this whole "we can't break into it" they tell the public is a facade?
27·1 day agoI swear to God, the government has done a good job of making people forget about the Snowden leak.
Many governments, all over the world, but especially the U.S. and China, can and are installing physical hardware backdoors into essentially every consumer grade phone and computer in the market.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon BUSTED for Widespread Scheme to Inflate Prices Across the Economy— Amazon, its vendors, and competing retailers are price fixing, hiking up prices for consumer products, making Amazon richerEnglish
195·4 days agoBezos explicitly undercut the competition for years to drive all of the competition out of business. Amazon took as much time from 1997-2016 to make as much profit as they did in 2017, which is also (not) coincidentally when they hit peak market saturation and were able to start raising their prices.
So what you’re talking about was real, but it wasn’t like, “back when Amazon was good”, they were just preparing for what they are now. Having a huge monopoly on just about everything has always been their win condition, and they’re no where near done winning.
The auto parts store across the street from the grocery store
When I moved to my current town, the first thing I did was figure out where all the grocery stores, the post office, and the library are. Do you really rely on advertising to tell you what to do? You can just see grocery store and say, “Yes, they probably sell cheese” and then go in?

Right, but how is the “$” supposed to be pronounced? Is is Microcashsoft? Microdollarsoft? It’s just not very intuitive

301·1 month agoI think, while Nazi comparisons are useful, it’s really important for people to understand that American Fascism is its own thing. Prior to the Nazis and Fascists coming to power, the U.S. was successfully managing an apartheid state and conducting mass sterilizations and popularizing the ideas of eugenics.
The U.S. was MASSIVELY influential on Nazi ideology, and American fascist really appreciated that and supported the Nazis in kind.
American Fascism has grown and developed out of unique American socio-economic conditions (manifest destiny, slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow, militia movement, preppers, protestant work ethic, evangelicalism, etc.) independently from other flavors of fascism, and therefore doesn’t map 1:1 perfectly to any other type of fascism.
The fact that European varieties were actively suppressed for so long while the America variety was allowed to actively metastasize means that the kind of fascism that we’re dealing with today is a far more advanced form and it’s already off the map, so to speak.

3·1 month agoResistance at this stage doesn’t look like the People™ taking to the streets and getting into fire fight with federal troops. That would be over and crushed in a matter of days. At this stage resistance is about building the necessary community connections to strengthen your position. Look into prefigurative politics and how they’ve factored into virtually every revolutionary project.

There’s is. It’s really simple: “From each, according to their ability, to each, according to their need.” Anything else on top of that is philosophical.
This is a similar tact that I took when I was about 16-17, but I find that to be a very naive point of view. Regardless of whether or not you want to apply any label to yourself (which is perfectly valid) the material conditions of the system we live in will come down on you too. So you either end up in the “We are stronger together” camp, or you end up in the “Me and mine are what needs to be protected. Other people be damned” camp. And if you find yourself in the former, you most likely align with people who call themselves socialist, and if you find yourself in the latter, well then you’re probably a bootlicker
