Mostly I fall asleep to Alan Watts, Charles Bukowski (read by someone with a better voice haha), sometimes a reading of Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet. When I get bored with those, I try radio stations, just whatever one interests me at the moment. Sometimes I’ll listen to the “learn [language] while you sleep” videos, just as a goof.

I wish I’d known how difficult it is to make a good, functional conlang. I badly underestimated this.

My focus is on trying to make the world a better place locally, on a tiny level. There is a lot wrong with the world and I can’t do anything about it on that overwhelmingly massive scale, but helping in whatever tiny way I can creates ripples that reach further than trying to fix EVERYTHING.

I tried Mastodon, multiple times, and it always has this icky political feel to it. Sort of like a left wing version of Twitter, which I also hate. Bluesky is even worse in this regard IME. Haven’t tried Sharkey. I’ll have a look at some of the alternatives in this thread.

I was already sick of what reddit was turning into, then it went full Spez and ruined the place completely. Lemmy was the only thing close that I could find. So here I am.

I’ve been basically stranded over the Christmas period, and I tried to get an online chat thing going for people in a similar position. But it went nowhere. So I guess I’ll celebrate with the wild birds that visit me daily. I have a great Christmas feast planned for them.

I love spending Christmas alone when it’s my choice… and I have food and not being crushed with stress from all directions, and not living in a street full crazy people who won’t let me have any peace in my own home. It’s very different when you’ve been treated like shit all year, then have a super shitty Christmas lined up.

I had/have the same thoughts. IANAL but I think if no one claims your corpse, the government pays for its disposal.
