  • At first I nodded my head to this since it adds user volume in one place, but this is the Fediverse, where no one set of mods or communities gets to “own” anything.

People can subscribe to both, so to me, the “best to not duplicate” is the antithesis of the Fediverse’s purpose.

  • I read his biography long ago. While it didn’t pull punches, even then he seemed really promising and I left it with a good feeling, just flawed character traitsany people have. It was easy to believe those things true until negative sentiment was revealed and it clicked on what he must have been like during those times.

Yea, a lot of posts in this community are like this. They may be more prevelant (or challenging) in the autistic community, but are often just “the annoyances of life”.

Note: I do think in your rationale is missing “lack of time” as a factor, though. Often applying oneself to purpose is not the individual’s fault, they just don’t have the time to be fulfilled.

  • Yea, running your own is definately the way to go. If you have Docker installed, you can run it on your local machine?

    docker pull docker.io/searxng/searxng:latest
    docker run -ti --rm --name searxng -p 8888:8080 -v "./searxng/config/:/etc/searxng/" -v "./searxng/data/:/var/cache/searxng/" docker.io/searxng/searxng:latest

That would run at http://localhost:8080/ and store all data and config persistent, and download the latest version (if needed) every time.

  • At a random time, when nothing is happening, hand him a “paid talent release form”.

If you look up “talent release form” it’s what allows a creator to use materials with another person. As it stands now, he asked you to participate but did not have you sign a release (with no fee), so you own partial rights to income from that video.

Say to him: “Since you are a pretty big creator I assume you’re familiar with releases. I grabbed a standard one to give you rights to my previously included videos, and here’s another for any future videos including me for a 50% share. I’ll sign them after you approve and sign unless you have a standard set you would like to use”

This makes it a business transaction, vs a “leave me alone”. He won’t want to figure out how to pay you, so he’ll probably stop.
