Lemmy is like pre-2015 reddit
I found it too focused on weird like, communist Linux-using privacy nerd sort of views, topics, and humor.
For the sake of optics, the Lemmy developers should make an effort to disassociate .ml from Lemmy itself. They have every right to run their own instance as they see fit, but too many users are falsely associating Lemmy as a whole with .ml.
Still, the average Reddit user is frustratingly more willing to put up with the platform’s enshittification than learn how to manage blocks on the Fediverse to tailor their feed to their liking.
I joined a couple of months ago and still have no idea how it all really works.
And it’s really not so important that I understand the minutia. People stumble around the internet all the time, making happy little discoveries and finding new communities. It’s kind of the way things used to work - we didn’t ask, we were just happily amused.
No, it’s good. Keeps most of the nazis and W*nd*ws users out.
Reddit users may be misguided, but most of them aren’t Nazis.
Also, while it’s good to help users in switching to Linux when requested, users shouldn’t feel unwelcome here simply for using Windows.
It would be nice if people pointed to specific lemmy servers instead of “Lemmy”.
Posting Threadiverse URLs gets posts automatically shadowbanned on Reddit, unfortunately; people should go into more detail when recommending Lemmy or Piefed though. People jump in expecting a 1:1 Reddit experience, and end up getting confused by federation and giving up.
I will if they reply with a grievance or query, to be fair. I just don’t want to copy and paste a dump of information at them across the thread.
And I’m unaware of a better alternative
Exit: if another person suggested Lemmy or piefed, I swear to god
1660 upvotes.
EDIT: Didn’t see the community this was so maybe this was an overly negative comment. I just get so exasperated by people and their attitude. Reddit literally does nothing special except have a bunch of users, yet people refuse to move even when an alternative is provided.
Yeah… it’s fucking annoying social media brainrot shit.
“If only there was a better way.”
“Here you go.”
“OMG STFU NERD” 🙄
Shows you who is being performative and who is real.
it’s like this meme

“Lemmy is good but the huge problem is the waiting process to sign up. You also have to pledge to contribute to Lemmy if you get access.”
lol never change reddit
That sounds like a psyop by a Reddit intern.
you used your remaining Lemmy Coins® on that comment, i hope it was worth it
all good I’m mining more as we speak
that’s right everyone lemmy is a crypto thing too
Love that people complain about reddit but then also refuse to leave. It’s sad, really. Why contribute to sustaining a shitty corp in your free time?
It honestly bothers me to no end, people would rather constantly complain than do the bare minimum to make an account elsewhere. Happens with all of the big platforms, Reddit, TikTok, X, Facebook, etc…
If I wasn’t permabanned from Reddit, I’d be spreading the word. It’s so much nicer over here… but I’m also aware that I said the same thing when I moved from BBS/Usenet to Reddit.
Also, why is Instagram such a hell hole? Between Reddit and Fedi I made a brief stop into Meta products and it was full of the worst kind of people (comments). I’d pick 4chan/b over Instashits.
