One is obsessed with weird photo-ops to prove his manliness in mall ninja-esque situations like barechested equestrianism or white guy judo.

The other put on a plate carrier and went to film himself in a town that the enemy said it had seized the day before, just to prove they hadn’t.

Edit - has Putin ever even been photographed in a plate carrier and helmet? Has he ever worn one since his KGB analyst days?

Weird how the guy to the left that started the war has not been seen anywhere near the front line in four years. It’s almost like he wants to make sure people understand war is for other people to deal with while he rides (shirtless) on his high horse.

Italians have a phrase, “Armiamoci e partite.” That means, loosely, “Let’s arm ourselves and you then go.” Say what you want about the feudal Middle Ages, at least kings and dukes had to go to battle themselves and risk their own lives.

Eh … though during some times in some parts, every effort would be made to capture the king or duke alive, and then ransom him back for either political considerations or money. ‘The feudal Middle Ages’ covers a broad spectrum of time, locations, and cultures … but in a lot of those places, nobility riding into battle could rest relatively easy knowing that they had a much higher chance of surviving the battle than the ordinary foot soldiers around them, even if defeated.

(Of course, that wasn’t universal, though. There definitely were times, places, and situations where the nobility could expect to be tortured and killed if defeated and captured. And there was always the chance of simply being very unlucky and catching a stray arrow or being trampled by a frightened horse or something.)

The way it happened I believe Russia was testing how social media could be used to manipulate people.

The picture on a horse went together with Obama on a bike with a biking helmet.

I think it was successful, because even Americans were resending it.
