A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.

Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old’s death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.

An inquest into Lucy Harrison’s death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the “big argument” about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

There’s also Houston, the largest city in the state. Houston is alright, mostly.

Houston’s all right except for the sprawl and the terrible climate, that is. Well, that and a homicide rate 75% higher than that in Los Angeles.

I know two very excellent people from Texas. They both had the sense to move abroad. I keep ripping on them because “You forgot about the Alamo, didn’t you?!”

The alamo was a US led insurrection in Mexican territory because the rich US landowners there wanted slavery to continue, and for manifest destiony (aka zionist-style land theft). Its yet another stain on US history that we could only hope would ever be forgotten.

As a Liberal Texan, there are a lot of great, progressive places in Texas. Generalizing a whole fucking state is pretty shitty. You realize how many millions of people live here?

Yes, our governor sucks ass. The state is jerrymandered into Republican control. However, as someone who has travelled and lived in over two dozen states in the US, I can tell you I’ve seen some of the biggest Trumpers in rural “blue states” like California.

Don’t blanket assume everyone is a gun toting, Trump voting Republican just because a state OVERALL votes a certain way.

People can be great, towns and cities can be nice, but corruption from leadership can ruin it for everyone. True for a state, the same for a country.

Agreed, but much like all Americans aren’t assholes because of the Federal government being Trump’s cronies, generalizing the entire state of Texas as “a shithole” is what I find offensive.

It doesn’t even matter what people on the Internet think of you. Wake up from your defensiveness. America is already at the point now where we are going to have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Texas has long been a lost cause.

Sounds like something Trump would say. I never called it a shithole, I just said it’s not safe there.

Fuck this opinion. Every last member of my family is in Texas. From Austin to Ft. Worth. All the women are liberal and all the men are gun toting MAGAs. Maybe one brother is just a conspiracy-minded libertarian, but the rest are MAGAs. I still love them and visit them, but I don’t want them having any legal jurisdiction over me or my kids.

Objectively speaking, you have to admit that if you are from any other states and visit Texas you would more likely be harassed by law enforcement or be a target for being an outsider. Does that mean that the citizens are all a reflection of that? Not really, but it would be very hard to convince a tourist (international or otherwise) to visit a state that has a backwards viewpoint that bleeds into their justice system.

Case in point, this women gets smoked and no charges are being pressed.

Unless you’re one of the billionaires fleeing the billionaire tax in California, in which case yes go to Texas, it’s way safer then the crime ridden California cities. You don’t even need to bring your body guards.
