As person that takes Independent & Left political shows at least 2-hrs. a day, every day & takes my personal health extremely serious…
Nearly every single participant in the parade threw tons of candy to as many children as they could. Most of the people of the parade route & surrounding areas of Homestead are poor & racial minorities. So these participating in the rodeo parade people are throwing unhealthy treats to children of people, who I can assume do not get enough healthy food. Would it not be better if they walk around & handed every parent at least one-piece of paper that grants them a free & a healthy meal, for their family? Talk about truly uncaring Capital elitism in The Capital (USA) of Capitalist World!
whats a rodeo parade?
I am surprised you do not know it, made me double check if I spelled it right.
Take all the animals (horses & steers & even teenage steers) & all the local organizations & sponsors of the rodeo & they march in a parade route. Like seen in USA’s Macy’s Christmas Day Parade & Pasadena’s (Cali.) Rose Parade,
yeah not many rodeos in the city and I think when there is they are at big expo centers and there is not anything outside of those centers. I was kinda guessing it was something like this. I have never been to a rodeo but have a general idea of what it is and then I know what a parade is so makes sense. I asked just in case it was some lingo I was unaware of.
Where do you live? What city? Okay, I cannot remember ever attending The Homestead Rodeo or any other, but my parents could have taken my as a super elementary student. I know rodeos by ads & movie ‘Buck’ (SP?; I highly recommend, documentary of the horse whisper of multiple years Rodeo Champions).
im in the greater chicago area. Im pretty sure if I saw a movie thats basis was a rodeo I would go. pass. I did see bronco billy though.
I wonder does it have to do with the area’s Demographics.
I hear you, believe me, as 2-decade activist against the city’s rodeo, but he did it the right way. Have you seen the movie ‘The Horse Whisper”? It’s version of a cowboy & treatment of horses turned on it’s head. Both are not perfect, but I doubt you have same standards my strict ones when comes to Other Beings & entertainment. I have never seen ‘Bronco Billy’ sounds like a movie I would never watch.
its eastwood from I would say the 70’s but it was 80 I think when it came out but had more a feel of movies from the decade before. it was funny but by no means a look behind the industry or anything and im not even sure it was a rodeo or a kind of circus or what. I mean I have a vague idea of rodeos and bull fighting and such and im not really motivated to look further. In this day and age there are so many sources of diversion I don’t see the point of these things. Usually a culture type thing is brought up but like at some point in history some cultures had human sacrifice. So I mean thats a cultural thing.

AWESOME, when I in debate or hopefully friendly discussion about rodeos & The Homestead Rodeo, I will have to remember that one.
dominant food culture definitely does not prioritize healthy diet or portions, and there is an intersection between poverty and obesity for several reasons, but it does seem a little disconnected to me to critique candy being shared at a celebration - I think what you might be missing is that candy is a celebratory food and is more appropriate to a parade or celebratory context than something like health food … even if everything you’ve said is true, I’m not sure a coupon for a healthy meal is going to be as fitting to the festive occasion, if that makes sense …
I disagree, it only does seem to fit, because it is done in every parade, let alone just in Homestead, Fl… In the parades I mention in reply above this one, there are a lot more wealthy attendees. & I imagine hard to find others parades marching in front of poorer people.
