My uncle’s dog actually fainted the first time he came back from deployment. He was a very sweet dog. Snuggly, quiet white lab who was dignified and looked like vaguely like a polar bear.

News@lemmy.world•FBI Warns of Criminals Posing as ICE, Urges Agents to ID Themselves
13·2 days agoDHS has argued that agents still identify themselves while masked: “When our heroic law enforcement officers conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from being targeted by highly sophisticated gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, criminal rings, murderers, and rapists,” assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a September statement.
If this were true, every judge, police officer and prosecutor would be dead. So no, they do not need to hide their faces. We all know why they are really hiding their faces.
Release the files.

111·6 days agoHmm. That’s worrying. I was probably going with AMD next to around, but them being semi-EOL’d after six years gives me pause. That would make my current GPU nearly be EOL.
Sounds like they are backtracking based on “market needs” which sounds like “we’ll support this until people get complacent” – not what I want to hear after spending $700+ on a component.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do y'all think about Halo coming to PlayStation?
2·12 days agoConsole exclusives always seemed stupid to me. That said, I always preferred Xbox controller layouts.
After 3/ODST, Halo was effectively over once Bungie sold off the IP. I’ve heard the new version is using AI in some capacity. If I really wanna play it, I’ll just play MCC on PC.
2 and 3 are where the story really got exciting. It’s fun to play the games in strictly chronological order, where you play all of Reach and 1, 2 for a bit, switch ODST, finish 2, then play 3. Extremely satisfying.

Technology@lemmy.zip•$96.5 million for Nadella. Microsoft's CEO receives record pay in a year that saw 15,000+ layoffsEnglish
8·17 days agoJust imagine, for a moment, having your salary even being a million dollars a year. Even with a mortgage and kids, that would be a fuckload of money. 95 times that is insane. Even after buying multiple supercars, a mansion, and a fancy boat, you’d still have more money than you could possibly use, ever. And that’s just one year of pay.
God, even if you invested part of a million a year, you’d be fantastically wealthy.

1·19 days agoI’ve always found seatbelt laws strange for this reason. Obviously, people should wear seatbelts. But it’s odd that it’s a ticketable offense in the same world where you are free to eject yourself at 75mph into someone’s back windscreen on the highway via motorcycle.
I’m somewhat surprised that in a lawsuit-heavy world where everything is covered in bubble wrap, and hammers have warnings that tell you to not hit your fingers or swallow the hammer, that motorcycles are still allowed to roll free.
Same thing with restrictions on sawed off shotguns, shotguns with ammo and laser restrictions, etc in a world where you can have an Steyr AUG with extended mags, lol.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•has anyone had a gamer partner or been that gamer partner? what helped the relationship despite being a gamer?
2·19 days agoGaming is a hobby, but just that. A hobby. We like to do other stuff like camping, skiing, hiking, etc.
It may be good to have an open discussion with your gf about doing other things, or a couple’s counselor. The latter might be easier if you are unsure about how to really talk about it.

Aside from a helmet, lights, lock, and storage, I’d recommend a rearview mirror and riding gloves. It significantly improves your blindspots without you having to take your eyes off the road. The gloves can slightly help with the cold, but are primary in case you crash. Once you get in a crash where your gloves get torn up once, you realize how important they are. They also prevent sand/gravel from getting in your hands.
