  • Something not many people have mentioned… What country do you live in?

I was planning on trying to get diagnosed, but then RFK “Brainworm” Jr. announced his little “autism registry” plan. He went back on that, but it still has made me far more weary about being diagnosed as an adult. I have also heard, although this is purely conjecture and may be wrong, that having an autism diagnosis can make it harder to migrate to another country if shit hits the fan.

However, for your kid, I do think there are benefits that outweigh the downsides. I have also been diagnosed with ADHD since I was a teenager, and it allowed me to get academic accommodations in college that were pretty invaluable. I can imagine they would have had an even bigger impact as a kid in school.

  • It seems like the Imgur album only has a photo of the back of the board. I think HVS004 might be the wrong number, can you take a close up photo of the chip (and surrounding circuitry) with a flash for a clearer view?

It’s also weird that a bug could have fried itself across a chip that only runs off a few volts. “Bug zappers” usually use at least a few kV. Maybe that IC runs off the 33v line or it was a particularly wet bug, but I suspect that might not be your issue.

  • It shouldn’t cause issues, since the water will remain in the heater without any pressure to push it out, there’s no difference between leaving it sitting with the valve open or closed.

Now, draining the tank could actually cause problems… But there’s not any reason for you to do that for what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • Data lines are nice and parallel, and are only a few cm long, so definitely shouldn’t be a problem.

My main feedback is that some of those capacitors (such as C36 and C37) are physically very tiny, you have plenty of space to spare so I don’t see a reason to not use larger parts like 0804 or even 1206 (using the imperial measurements).

Why do you have the spiral trace going to the power switch? Just for aesthetics, or something else? There are a few other places with traces making spirally twists too.

  • They don’t have a monopoly. Full stop. Just off the top of my head, we have Epic Games Store, GOG, and Itch.io, which may not be as popular as Steam, but are absolutely viable alternatives if Steam ever goes completely to shit.

A real monopoly is like how, in my city in the US, there is exactly ONE company you can buy electricity and gas from. It’s a subsidiary of Avangrid, which is a Swedish corporation, not even on the same continent. They’ve been doing incredibly fucky shit with billing customers for years now and they have the mayor in their pocket, so if you want electricity, you have no choice other than to pay up. There are no alternatives unless you have the money to pay up front for a full off-grid solar install.

  • It could just be your DNS, I’ve had problems with Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 and Catbox but I think they actually have a list of ISPs and DNS providers that give them issues. I don’t think you can manually specify a DNS server on cellular (without some weird workaround), but if you have issues on other networks you can try changing your DNS and see what happens.

  • I know this doesn’t address your question, but I wanted to kindly nudge you in the direction of uploading both the STL and 3MF. In this case it seems like the 3MF file would avoid rasterizing the SVG and allow better upscaling of the model if someone so desires (plus, personally, I find 3mf files to just be much easier to work with, and since they’re almost universally supported now I don’t see a reason to only distribute the inferior STL version).
