To get my son’s ASD and ADHD diagnosed I’ve spent over $5k, tens of hours of calls, interviews, meetings and sessions) just in diagnosis costs (and about $21k in occupational and psychological support) in order to prove the bleeding obvious to the state in order order to have him placed in a support school.

And that’s whilst supporting his daily needs and working full time (and God knows how much OT).

It’s not an easy road. The costs are prohibitive and I live in a country where neither private health nor the “universal” healthcare covers the cost of specialists and treatments.

It’s no surprise it’s underdiagnosed let alone treated.

And that’s whilst dealing with my other kid suicide attempts and my partners chronic health condition (lots of neurological specialists).

Driver support is non-existent. Audio via the speakers worked but no volume control, Bluetooth, thunderbolt, mic etc didn’t work. Even the headphone socket didn’t work.

Shit even the gpu (AMD) didn’t work properly. Despite being a 5k panel resolution is stuck at 4k.

Sigh. Would have been a great Linux box if I could have gotten it to work

I am so glad for game pass (at least before the price hike).

I tried Starfield and found it just so contrived and boring. To being made to touch and gather the weird space magic stuff in the asteroid to just suddenly being given a space ship to the inane combat and awful environments.

And this is someone coming from over 5,000 hours in F04 (and 2000 across Fallout titles, and God knows how much across Morrowwind, Skyrim, Oblivion etc). I am very much used to Bethesda jank.

But jeebus, Starfield is as compelling as wet toast. I read the synopsis of the game and was utterly relieved to have missed wasting countless hours in what has to be one of the worst written and developed games of the past 10 years.

That said it is clear Starfield was a huge pump and dump scheme by Zenimax to sell Bethesda to MS under the idea Starfield was gonna be the next Elder Scroll/fallout block buster. (not to mention populating stories about giving Sony an exclusive on Starfield to make MS jealous)

The only good part of spore is the first part of the game, going from single cell to multi cellular.

I found the rest of the game convoluted, and this despite playing it to the end. And replaying it many times over

We’re replacing an entire stack with software provided by a new vendor. Our application group was excitingly telling us the go date for new platform was August 2026 (this was in December).

Not only is it ridiculously short, considering the existing stack processes some $200m (plus) worth of business a month, but there was zero architecture work on how upstream and downstream stacks would interface (all API magic if you ask the PM). Apparently the vendor was hand waving the huge amount of integration and migration work away claiming they had an army of devs (all offshored) to handle all that messy and complex stuff.

I discovered yesterday we haven’t even signed the fucking contract / settled on a price.
