1·12 days agoLog files, dmesg, journalctl and systemctl status are good starting points to get clues for where to start troubleshooting problems, then you can hit the man pages or internet. Watch a video about the typical Linux system file structure means and what directories have important config, log, device, or process files and then go look at those files with cat or nano or ls -la.
You start to become familiar with how things go together and the usual suspects for problems, but also get better at searching the internet or a wiki for troubleshooting your problem.

11·17 days agoMy parents made us a Betamax household well into the mid 90s; always relegated to the small shitty section of the video rental store.
In the 2000s I wanted to avoid another format pushed by Sony, so I went with HD-DVD over Bluray… sigh. I even got the Xbox 360 external HD-DVD drive.
I’m so happy BTAF is still being made. Snotley!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there an endgame to Trump or trying to obtain? Or is he making it up along the way at the cost of Americans?English
13·1 month agoPerhaps power itself is his endgame. Like Putin who he envies. Everything Trump does is to maintain and grow his power. This video was enlightening on the subject: https://youtu.be/1iZcXn8uDis
Orwell is quoted in the comments and is prophetical:
Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.
George Orwell, 1984

4·1 month agoWe aren’t calling it a Robertson to honor a dead patent, it’s to show we know the origin as Canadian, and because that’s the name of the thing. Living next to the cultural blackhole of the USA means getting swallowed and erased if we don’t showcase and have pride in what is Canadian. So at least where Canadians are concerned it’s not a square.
