Nobody needs an old story book to know how to be a good person. The issue lies not with a lack of bibles, but with a manufactured lack of social cohesion. Years of propaganda against socialism and unions have lured a big part of the US population in a trap of “hyperindiviualism”, where you are preyed upon if you don’t play the same game of “me first”.

Fixing this needs politicians that come from the people and work for the people, but the rich part of society has undermined the (sadly bad designed) process where such people can rise up into positions where they can make decisions. The common folk is under permanent attack by the 0.1%, and many of them (see MAGA) don’t even recognize from where the systematic violence they are experiencing comes, because they get fed that socialism is the thing that oppresses them.

If you add religion to this cocktail, it acts like adding a hypergolic fuel into a house fire. It gets instrumentalised to create an in-group and to define an outgroup. Religion is not the way out.

The US are in quite a pickle, and from the outside i don’t see many peaceful ways out of this situation.

I wouldn’t laugh. Those people fulfill a basic human need in a way they feel safe with - probably because this safety is missing from their life. It’s not healthy to be so attached to LLMs, but to become so attached they must feel pretty isolated. And LLM’s are a lot more interactive and responsive than Severus Snape, and he had lots of women “channeling” him.

I can fully understand? The average human, from my perspective and lived experience, is garbage to his contemporaries; and one is never safe from being hurt, neither from family or friends. Some people have been hurt more than others - i can fully understand the need for exchange with someone/something that genuinely doesn’t want to hurt you and that is (at least seemingly) more sapient than a pet.

I would recommend Nobara, Bazzite or PopOS for gaming; My personal experience with Debian is that it’s a great OS, but the focus lies less on cutting edge features or support of the latest hardware, and more on stability over everything else, and the desktop environment is more of an convenience feature - Debian is very happy as a headless server. If you want an OS with record setting uptimes, pick Debian; but for gaming you want to be on the cutting edge, and that’s simply not the case with Debian.

Nobara works ootb too if you ever want to try a fedora spin. they even have a separate installer for nvidia users.
