Wouldn’t it be a good solution to move the directories elsewhere but then symlink them to their default locations? You’ll need to think a bit about file permissions while doing that, but are there any other caveats?

UNIX-like systems such as Linux are intentionally made so that a directory can be on a different hard drive than its parent directory. So, you can have /usr/games, including almost everything on it to be on hard drive #1, but then define that /usr/games/quake should be on hard drive #2. The limitation is, you cannot have different parts of the directory tree on the same hard drive. So, if /usr/games/quake is on its own partition, you cannot have /home/plzgivehugs/artwork/bigfiles on the same partition.

So, basically, people are okay with what the Nazis did between 1932 and 1941. But from 1941 onwards, Nazis went over some line that is not acceptable.
In my opinion, Nazis were horribly evil already in 1932 and what they did back then was already absolutely condemnable, but it seems that most people in our society don’t share my view on this. You are allowed to commit a genocide using starvation and bullets, like the Nazis did until 1941, but when you start using actual gas chambers, it becomes a no-no.

Nah. Nobody reasoned with him. He just got angry at Putin. He’s an animal of instincts and feelings, not one of logic. He does random things. A random decision can sometimes be good, sometimes bad.
You cannot really say anything about the quality of a decision just from it being in the group of “decisions that can also be chosen randomly”.

And then: There were blog posts analyzing the debris of the Rubezh missile launched back in November and December 2024. The debris shows that it is not a new development. It cannot be directly proven that the Oreshnik and Rubezh are the same missile, because Rubezh, being against treaties signed by USSR, was a very secret project, of which only very little information leaked. But, the debris shows that the “Oreshnik” missiles were made around when we know Rubezh had been made. And they are missiles for the same purpose. It’s unlikely that the Russia would have developed two separate missile types for the same purpose at the same time.

The Rubezh/Oreshnik/Whatever you want to call it exists as less than 10 missiles. And of those, already two have been used. They were made almost 20 years ago and include components whose production was ended in 1990’s and can no longer be produced by any factory in any country.
The only reason Lukašenka is talking about the Rubezh missiles is that Putin wants to scare us into giving Ukraine to the Russia. I haven’t really seen any western hype of the Rubezh in the way Lukašenka talks about.
And furthermore: Rubezh is a type of missile that is banned by international agreements on reducing the nuclear danger. That the Russia has held to almost ten of those for several decades tells a lot about how dangerous the Russia is. While others have stopped using such mid-range ballistic missiles and have scrapped them, the Russia had just hidden them. And now has dug them back out and put the laber “Oreshnik” on them. Them having launched already two of their Rubezh (or Oreshnik, if you prefer that name) tells that they only use them for the purpose of scaring. If they really planned to use them for something serious, they would not launch one fifth of them without nuclear warheads as they have done now.
A cheater country, such as the Russia is, must fall.
Whenever I’m going abroad within Europe, for a bit over month before that, I start buying stuff only with banknotes. I put all of the coins made in Finland or (other) Baltic countries in a separate pocket and then make sure to use those during my travel.
It feels nice that people get to see coins that they don’t see that often. And at the same time, I’m increasing the relative amount of non-Finnish coins in Finland, which I also think is good, as that helps people here notice that there’s more to the EU than just Finland :)
I would guess it’s unlikely that all that many other people do the same.

I wanted to move from Lemmy to PieFed, because its development is faster than that of Lemmy’s and because its maintainers have values I have nothing against and because I want to help a cool project grow.
And then I had a bunch of criteria that I wanted my instance to fulfill, and piefed.ee was the only PieFed instance that fulfilled all of my wishes. So, now I’m apparently one out of ten :)
Note that Lifespan is not the same as life expectancy
In this article it is, though. That’s why they use the phrase “average lifespan”. There is no “average” in maximum.
In the article the phrase “average lifespan” is used in the meaning “average life expectancy”.
It’s because the 38 years as average lifespan is skewed by high child mortality. People lived about 70 or 80 years – provided they first made it alive through childhood.
But genetically we come from nomadic tribes, and AFAIK the nomads of a 100000 years ago, had a far shorter average lifespan than after we settled and began farming.
This is mainly because of child mortality. When you get five children, of which two live to be 78 and 89 and the other three die at ages of 2, 14, and 8, your children’s average lifespan is 38,2 years. Typically, you either died very young, or you lived old. And the average is, well, the average of those. Basically nobody died around the age of 38.
