4·22 days agoMy suggestions are:
Scott Pilgrim EX Beat’em up RPG in the universe of Scott Pilgrim, it is a well-made game even if you don’t know that IP.
Wax Heads You work in a record store matching LPs to customers and helping local bands.
Phonopolis Beautifully-made point & click adventure(cardboard style), with well-made puzzles.
Pluto I went for the art, but really liked the mechanics to cast spells. You can put an element on each of your fingers that matches the pattern of a spell card. If a spell ends in water, and another starts with water you can chain them to use fewer fingers. There is a bunch of mechanics going on to modify the behaviour of your fingers, like rings, power ups, or enemy curses.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•New Steam Games with Native Linux Builds, including Cinicross and Shadows of the Afterland - 2026-02-11 EditionEnglish
2·26 days agoIt is nice that most of them have demos.
Jackal is good, I recommend if you like games like Hotline Miami. It is similar but more forgiving, and you have some weird powers. (There is a button “download demo” on the right panel).
I need to give the others a try, I am curious about Shadows of the Afterland.
I noticed that most people I bump into that says they are not into politics, they mean partisan politics. Often from places where they are disenfranchised about their civics.
But if you bring up “holly shit, did you see the price of milk is 7CAD?”. They will be more than happy to provided their cents on why and think about solutions.

Boycott US@lemmy.ca•Adobe backlash is getting louder — time to escape proprietary creative tools?English
11·1 month agoEarly 2010s I asked the company I worked for to approve some free game engines to be installed. The legal department returned a big no with pages of why Unity should not be allowed in the premises. We proceeded with Unreal, Blender and eventually Godot as tools any employee could install.
Unity was bad back them, it is just that people did not read the agreements and tech sheet. Their new leadership just made that more apparent.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bandcamp bans purely AI-generated music from its platformEnglish
13·2 months agoThis is the best answer! Thank you for sharing your methods. I was going to reply about the daily editorial, but yours is more complete.
I would also like to add that I type the name of things I like and often find them on bandcamp. Including big artists.
Peter Gabriel, Evanescence, Run the Jewels, Flight of Conchords, Ghost…
What I don’t find there, I get from a thrift store (easy to find famous artists there) or quobuz.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bandcamp bans purely AI-generated music from its platformEnglish
50·2 months agoThey gave us a scare over the years, being sold around to companies that are famous for enshittifying platforms.
Epic sold the company when people unionized, and the next did a trick to not recognized the union and “hire” half of the staff (contrary to fire half of them).
The platform is not what has been 5 years ago, but it is still my favourite place to get music around.
While writing the book, I realized that the core constraints of the universe described in the text
Did you write the text? Why are you talking about the text like you are reading it for the first time? It might be when you “write” +200 pages in 2 weeks.
I suspect it’s actually a Game Engine specification.
No, it is not. Your text is a manifesto, even if you eventually figure out physics, it is still not what you need to build a physics simulation engine or the physics abstraction for a game engine. Your text helps to achieve neither.
Please stop preying on kids for free labour and to spread whatever your goals are.
Just literacy would be enough.
Without even counting the red flags of the account date, both here and GitHub, that you cannot find the author anywhere, that OP managed to write +200 pages of “physics” in 2 weeks (check changelogs, it went from 211 pages to whatever op is claiming now). The whole thing reads like LLM assisted manifesto.
I am not joking, people do not need to read the entire thing to see that is just dropping real names (physics, tech) without any support to their claims. And it is just claims as an absolute, there is no proof, logic, nothing.
I guess they would get a lot more goodwill if they were upfront about writing fiction, or some TempleOS kind of thing.
They are using this “game engine” excuse just to prey on kids.
plugged that into ghci as 5+2*(8-5), and it says 17.
You might want to report that error. Or, did you mean 2+5*(8-5)?
The author surely likes that the mascot is a dog. It feels more of a read and analysis of the terms of use than a deep dive of the tool but it was a good reading and I liked the suggestions.
I also liked the “reminder”.
Edit: you should share this in some community as a post, every time I see this kind of website (pure content no-nonsense) it is shared is in the comments. 15 years ago this kind of stuff was easy to find, but nowadays, I only see them in comment sections. Even the search engine recommended around here would list a bunch of junk in the first pages.

World News@lemmy.world•Brazilian police arrest 2 suspects over bomb plot targeting Lady Gaga's concert in RioEnglish
3·11 months agoFrom ground news summary:
- Brazilian police arrested a man and a teenager on May 3, 2025, foiling a bomb plot targeting Lady Gaga’s concert in Rio de Janeiro.
- Authorities uncovered the plot after identifying an online group spreading hate speech, radicalizing teenagers, and encouraging self-harm.
- Authorities conducted raids at nine sites across multiple Brazilian states such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, confiscating electronic equipment and other items connected to the planned bombing.
- Around 2.1 million people attended the free concert on Copacabana Beach, which aimed to boost the local economy and drew 500,000 tourists.
- The arrests prevented a potentially large-scale attack involving improvised explosives, highlighting authorities’ efforts against extremist online networks.
What the ground news summary did not describe that most publications seem to list are:
- The Brazilian federal police was already investigating other groups like this
- Authorities suspect the group was targeting the LGBTQ+ community.
- The arrested teenager was in possession of child sexual abuse material, and was charged on that.
- Another member of the group (not sure if he was charged) had religious motivations.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I decrease acne after shaving my face?
1·11 months ago- Wash your face or any area you want to shave with gentle soap.
- Use a gentle shaving cream, no scent, no alcohol. If possible, spread it with a shaving brush gently.
- Shave in the direction of the hair, e.g. your moustache you probably go from nose to lips.
a. Change your blades often, with a safety razor you most likely want a new blade after each shave. Blades get dull, pull the hair and clog the pores, they will accumulate bacteria over time, causing infections, disposing them after each shave will reduce the chances of those happening.
b. Try to get good at passing the blade only once, avoid repeating on the same spots multiple times. If struggling, you might want to consider one of those razors that adjust to your face as you move, or an electric trimmer - avoid the ones that pull the hair before cutting. - Wash your face again, if possible, use a soap with ceramides and niacinamide (they will help with your skin recovery).
- Tap your face gently with a clean towel, do not rub it, don’t go hard. Leave some moisture.
- Use moisturizer (ceramides and niacinamide is a plus)
- SPF
A lot of the things that happen to your skin can be caused by bacteria, clogged pores by dead skin, dirty, hair, fabric… Those steps will help you minimize the chances and help your skin recover faster after shaving.
If possible, you should visit a dermatologist for a deeper understanding of your skin, and the care you need.
Also, on a special occasion, treat yourself to one of those old school barbers, with hot/cold towels and all the pampers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Unpowered SSD endurance investigation finds severe data loss and performance issuesEnglish
8·11 months agoDepends on the threat model and how long do you need the data.
Worked on a place long ago, that anything they needed to save offline from more than a few decades where stored in microfilm, the expectancy there where they would last 80 to 100 years.
Anything else was pretty much tape.
You also take in account the technology avaiability. The more complex is to use, harder will it be to reproduce in the future. Even with tapes, you might want to copy the data to another tape/recorder every decade or two, to keep it on par with the technology.

tl;dr: it is probably Deadlock, use a VPN to force a different the server/route.
@hello_there Does your computer support wifi6? What time of the day are you playing Deadlock?
As others mentioned, you need to isolate the problem. The usual suspects are:
mtr, linssid, nmcli… there are many out there. Use something that would monitor for a while, since you said that the spikes happen every 10 seconds. If you are willing to move your computer, or get a longer cable to your antenna, or to buy wifi6 antenna with a long cable: you can get a phone app to do the strength test and check for better spots nearby. The other suspects do not happen so often, but:
A faulty Wi-Fi device, but the 10 seconds interval is a bit weird for it. And you would see a bunch of errors in your logs. If you want to rule that out, get one of those wifi-usb dongle with a big USB extension, or one of those fancy ones from TP-Link or Netgear that comes with big cables and antennas.
If you think it might be a fedora update, you can rollback to test it. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/manual-rollbacks/
I am inclined to think it is Deadlock because I played it for a while, and from my list, it was the only thing inconsistent and extremely erratic. From one day to another, it would go from small spikes, to something that looked like randomizing my ping between 45 and 350 every couple of seconds. One of those days it was connecting me to Amsterdam servers, with a hop in Buenos Aires first. And sometimes it would change depending on the time of the day. The game is not released yet, and their servers are still experimental.
Sadly, there is no way to force a server at the time, not sure if they implemented that yet. And there were plenty of people complaining on their forums about those problems. There, you might find a case similar to yours with a different solution, but what worked for me sometimes was to use a VPN and chose a location in the same city as the server closest to me. When that failed, I would try a different city for the VPN.
