Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you created a simulation that resulted in the creation of countless intelligent beings would it be unethical to end the simulation?
1·20 days agoI’ve seen it a long time ago, and if I remember well, they have to prevent the simulation people to build a simulation, otherwise the hardware will not be able to keep up. And big part of the plot, the scientists can load in the simulation.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you created a simulation that resulted in the creation of countless intelligent beings would it be unethical to end the simulation?
6·21 days agoThere is a tv film, i don’t know the title, related about this topic.
The plot was :
a group of scientists made a living simulation, and go in the simulation to operate fixes and prevent making simulation. On day, one the scientific was killed, and left a message in the simulation for their coworkers. The message was : “take a road and follow no direction”, a guy in the simulation followed the instruction and discovered that he was in a simulation, but the message were for the scientists who are in a simulation too.
If someone can find the movie, it could be great.
It’s a very slow development but still active https://github.com/TokTok/qTox
Tox, where is TOX ? Why it’s not mentioned in the article ? It’s te most private messaging app, no other app can be more secure.
Because, PDF is a container, like a fancy zip, the pictures saved in are kept in their original format, (JPEG, PNG/APNG, AVIF, GIF, JP2k, JPXL, BMP…) unless you add a step to re-compress the all document with image.
It’s always slightly bigger than the original file.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Installed Linux for the fist time in Feb, I've now started saving ISO's
11·4 months ago- you need Ventoy to stop formatting you’re USB sticks
- Keeping lot of ISO is a bit useless just the few that you use daily.
- If you’re keeping this ISO anyway, get them by torrent and keep sharing for helping the community
Do you invade your banished island ? Ask in history who where send to colonise this lands ?
USA need his own popular revolution, until then, they will be killed by a system they are proud and happy to give their lives for. If you never fought for your rights, you can’t understand how precious they are.
Apparently nowadays, many countries are making kings and queens, to lazy to take care of the system which is taking shape. And at the very end, everyone will lose.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Deleting Windows from dual boot Linux/Windows computer
1·9 months agoHi, I didn’t see the answer if you only have your pc and no other big storage :
If you still have the installation usb or recreate one. Boot on it then you opengpartedwith that you remove the two partition off windows, the main with the system and the recovery one (if there is) but don’t touch the first or last partitionespif it exits. Then you can expand the partitions to get the free space. Extend to the right is fast but extend to the left can be really slow and prone to failures.
I case you Linux partition are all on the right you can also create new main partition, do the install of the linux on this one, then reboot on the USB, move the user and configuration files on the new system, delete old installation partitions, then extend the new install to take the full drive.
There is commands to remove the oldespentries I don’t remember yet.
This can take few hours so be patient. The other option with a backup (
dd) of the main partition is obviously safer but take nearly the same amount of time and need an external drive.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Which distribution should I recommend to beginners to scare them?
23·11 months agoGentoo obviously :
To install, easy just get this iso, with no GUI, then whip your hard drive, create partition, copy the Linux core, config your core based on the hardware technical details of every components you have and will use, compile it, add extra core drivers, compile them, add all the software you’ll use to get a GUI (Desktop environment), compile them,. Now you can finally restart without usb stick! Add all the software, configure and compile them. And for every update of every software you may check the details to be sure it doesn’t break your config.
Easy no? It just took you a month to get all the steps right!

Linux@lemmy.world•Thinking about making the switch and need some advice.English
71·1 year agoHi, To try a Linux, you’ll need a usb stick drive, at least 2go, then find a distro to try, for that, my advice is to check the ranked list on https://distrowatch.com/
Most of them have different “flavor” (aka desktop manager), gnome, xfce, cinnamon… They are consistent from a distro to another so think about it as distinct feature.
To start the ISO, you can use Ventoy, on which you copy the iso files of several distro at once. https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html
You may need to chance the order of booting of your laptop to start from the usb stick, depending of the age of the bios/Uefi, it’s just a key press during the boot or on windows keep Shift pressed while clicking on the reboot start menu button.
When you get to the started distro you wanna try, you may check if all the hardware is operational (except for nvidia closed driver which need a full install) you can install software to find the tools you need, browse web to find answers to the new questions you’ll have, everything you do there is volatile and disappear with restart, so it’s a cool playground use it to learn as much as you can.
And after trying, breaking, and finding the coolest distro for you, you can install on your internal drive.
I play a lot on Linux, ark, genshin, civilisation, palworld… As easy as, install steam, go to settings, compatibility, check the square, and install your games, enjoy!

I use messages from https://github.com/FossifyOrg works well, there is no plenty of settings, so not very customisable.
i used mood before, but i changed because they added advertising in the app https://moodsms.com/
