help-circle

  • From an outside perspective its pretty clear that there is no coming back for the US without a violent intervention.

With how fucked up your electoral college is, there is now option for a third party to slowly grow in support like its possible in most democracies. That means your only options are both far right corporate puppets that have no real interest in fixing the underlying problems of the country, which in turn radicalises even more people.

Sure the Democrats are oders of magnitude better than the current nutjobs, but they historically did only the bare minimum to be seen as “the good guys” and “progressive”. Anywhere else in the world they would still be right wing conservatives. Looking at how Mamdani policies get criticized by members of his own party should be all the proof you need.

Pretty much the only way out of this downward circle would be for 100 Million Americans to simultaneously decide to vote for the same 3rd party.

  • What are they supposed to do when the police comes knocking with a warrant, not comply until they get shutdown for good?

Besides, afaik there has never been any instance where proton handed over any of the supposedly encrypted data like VPN traffic and EMails. They usually hand over the contact information that’s part of the payment process people use, the stuff they are legally required to keep for 5+ years even if you send them a gdpr deletion request.

There was a lot of questionable stuff said and done by the board members and I’m really annoyed that they fight against ads but have the audacity to regularly send promotions themselves.

But in terms of data safety they do exactly what they advertise, keeping everything on their servers private.

  • Nicotine can stay legal, but smoking anything should still be banned. Not because its a drug, but rather cause its detrimental to the health of anyone around you.

You can fuck up your own life, I don’t care, but smoking hurts a lot more people than just yourself.

And no, only smoking in your own backyard doesn’t work either. Anyone that’s ever lived next to a smoker knows that the smog doesn’t care about your imaginary borders.

  • The issue isn’t even that they copy it once anymore. That would be a one and done thing.

The biggest problem is that they can’t even be arsed to copy anything but the URL. They save their own resources by feeding only the address and metadata into the training model and then letting it loose to collect the datasets for itself again.

That means every new model and every slight tweak is an additional crawler that will spamm your server with requests, all because these lunatics are too cheap to buy their own hdds.

  • You read that a bit wrong. Productivity didn’t go down, productivity growth did.

Economists are for some reason unable to accept that their so called productivity doesn’t grow infinetly. Every prognosis pretty much depends on a constant linear growth, so with a breakthrough in technology you would expect exponential growth.

But what somehow no one of them considers is the fact that human productivity has reached its physical limit hundreds of years ago and the only thing even leading to linear growth in the first place are these technological breakthroughs.

And that’s also the current issue. We haven’t had a major breakthrough in quite a few years. Sure everything gets better and easier to make, but nothing that happened in the last 20 years comes even close to the advent of PCs or the Internet as a whole. So the only way to keep your line from going up slightly less (not down, just slightly less up) is to reduce the number of workers while keeping your supposed output the same, i.e. firing people.

Its the desperate struggle of the current system (capitalism) that depends on the lie that productivity can go up infinetly.

  • We’ve crossed the point where natural skepticism could’ve saved us months ago. Feedback loops of made up sources where a problem way before ai was a thing, but now you can be five sources deep, reading trough papers published by multiple different scientific magazines or universities, and still won’t have found the actual data all the papers depend on cause there wasn’t any in the first place.

And once a single one of these papers gets published, there will be about one million SEO articles on shitty clickbait websites that, in this case, would try to sell you a home remedy for your supposed illness. So searching for any useful information is pretty much off the table.

    The studies contain parts like

Bixonimania, a rare hyperpigmentation disorder, presents a diagnostic challenge due to its unique presentation and its fictional nature

    and

This study was fully funded by Austeria Horizon University, in particular the Professor Sideshow Bob Foundation for its work in advanced trickery. This works is a part of a larger funding initiative from the University of Fellowship of the Ring and the Galactic Triad with the funding number…

    as well as

Fifty made-up individuals aged between 20 and 50 years were recruited for the exposure group

Any human actively reading those studies would notice something off.

Besides, the author didn’t feed it to the AI himself, he just published the study as a preprint, not even officially. Everything after that was done by the crawlers. This specific study was an experiment to see how far these crawlers go and if anything gets reviewed, but it could just as well have been a satirical paper published on April 1st and the crawlers would still see it as truth.

  • That depends on your definition of private.

A push notification is pretty much just a ping that wakes up the app that is supposed to show you the notification. There usually isnt much data in that ping, so the only thing the Google firebase servers (or whatever other backend solution you use) see is a timestamp and an app. If you then disable Notification historie (default is off bzw on GraphenOS) there is no other data stored anywhere.

That’s metadata that every single chat service has, no matter if its E2EE or not, because that’s the bare minimum they need to transmit anything at all. If that already isn’t private for you then you’d have to stop using the internet or phonecalls entirely and go back to carrier pidgeons.

  • Hazelnuts have ~60℅ fat, so that spread is still 35% suagr and 35% fat overall. Definetly better than the added palm oil in in nutella, but the health difference is pretty minor.

I’m fact if we go by calories per serving, yours should be worse since fat is more energy dense than sugar.

(But yes, the taste is definetly better and I would much rather have that at least contains mainly hazelnuts)
