Common reasons I self censor. Half the time im amused by and enjoy engaging with the faceless void of people and chatbots that make up the anonymous internet, half the time im just overwhelmingly exhausted with it

IME trans spaces are kinda just low key hostile to men in general. Not in the way where everybody is hostile or anything, but if you pay attention you’ll notice that misandrists get away with a wild amount of shit slinging in trans spaces as compared to most other flavors of bigotry being policed quickly and harshly

I formed my opinion after reading the title of post and the “Between 2010 and 2021” at the beginning of the preview, then skimmed the article to see if I was off base. I’ve spent enough of my life trying to get/maintain grant funding from fascists to know what it means when the data is that blatantly cherrypicked.

Notice how the study conveniently cuts off right before the meat grinder that is the Russia Ukraine war started. I’d imagine the methodology of the study disproves the conclusion they made if you don’t cherrypick the data. I wonder who would benefit from doing an obviously bunk study to convince people think that sanctions are worse than wars?

I think they might be contrapositives. To me, redneck engineering roughly means “surprisingly good and durable solution made in spite of limited materials and or knowledge” where kludge roughly means “surprisingly shit solution barely good enough to work 1 or 2 times despite having the money/ability to produce a much better solution.”

Blud sequestering themselves from men is literally the stated goal of that kind of community. So… yeah? If people want to be sequestered that does involve sequestering themselves somewhere. Maybe if you feel like those kind of places are hard to find you should engage in some praxis and spread the word about them rather than crying at me because I feel othered by a “no men allowed” sign planted in a public forum. Wanting a safe space is valid. Trying to force people you dont like out of an open space to create that safe space is not valid.

I dont have a ton of respect for people making or enforcing exclusionary spaces on public message boards like that. If they really wanted a separate safe space they’d have something like beehaw with moderated sign-ups and a closed door policy to people who dont go through the verification. I dont care about it enough to argue and I go with a “block and let live” strategy regarding those kind of places, but im also not about to spend time or energy policing myself beyond the aforementioned “on topic, dont be a dick” because a bunch of people intentionally chose the wrong hosting tool for an exclusionary community so they can (in my opinion) performatively other people they dont like in a public space.

If I’m making a post I make sure it’s relevant to the community I’m posting to, but just commenting on posts that show up in my feed I dont bother most of the time. Most message board rules boil down to “stay roughly on topic and dont be a dick to the other people here” anyway; you probably dont need to know most message board rules if youre adhering to that.

You could try running tails on your laptop. Nothing guarantees resting privacy like removable boot media

I just block that community. Not like out of malice or anything but it prevents me from commenting on a post without looking at the comm name. I try to make a habit of not spending time in places where I am not welcome

Whenever the cats that have been in my life are doing dangerous stuff like that I hiss at them and chase them off. It’s very effective at getting them to stop trying to kill themselves and it doesn’t seem to upset them longterm

In seriousness, a lot of particle physics has to do with smashing shit together really really hard and then studying what comes out. If I am for instance trying to observe a k meson, the way I’d do that is to accelerate a bunch of gold nuclei up to 10 or 12 TeV (i dont remember how fast that is in m/s; some small fraction of the speed of light), smash those gold nuclei into eachother, then look at the spray of particles that comes out. The expected products of a collision like that are heavily dependent on what you started with before any smashing occurs, so particle physicists do tend to care pretty significantly about macro molecules like metal. Mostly because of their decay products, but the metal is important
