  • Mine. We focused on the top and lost everything including the legislative base.

In the late seventies the unions didn’t feel that Democrats had done enough for them so they decided to punish carter. By not endorsing or supporting him. In the end we lost both Carter and the unions. If only They had focused on addressing the legislature that could have actually changed something. And not let Reagan get in power.

This isn’t an isolated example. In fact, of the three branches of US government. The presidency is one of the least useful ones to hold. It’s nice to hold. But if you want to actually pass laws Etc you need to legislature. And a court that isn’t beholden’s big business to instantly overturn it. With enough people in the legislature they can force the president to sign it with a veto-proof majority. The president can’t do any of that. At best they can make me transition Smoother by agreeing to sign the legislation. But that’s it. It’s basic civics I guess they don’t teach that in school anymore though.

  • Well if you want fascists to keep winning you have to right attitude.

We have well over 50 years of evidence that attempts at top down change always backfire. If you don’t want weak willed beholden people being nominated for leadership roles. Focus on filling all the offices beneath them with people who aren’t.

Even had Sanders made it into office. He would have struggled continuously to accomplish anything with all the people underneath him.

It is a literal yet unfortunate fact that we must hold our noses and vote for anyone who stands a chance at beating a Republican in a national presidential election. Until such time as the parties have been taken over by people who wouldn’t nominate someone like that.

  • As an anarchist. The seething hate I’ve received for pointing out. That the genocide in Palestine is truly an appropriate both sides thing. That it wasn’t just Biden or just Harris. That it was our senators, our Congress people, and the executive branch.

That it was going to be a Republican or a Democrat that won the presidential election. And we all would definitely prefer it wasn’t for the Republican. Or that if Fox News covers you without wildly editorializing or smearing you. You done fucked up. You could be forgiven for thinking I had just strangled their grandmother’s from the reaction.

  • You would at least have plausible deniability. The bigger issue is that a lot of the modding being done is by administrators and not by moderators. Some are. But some of the most egregious stuff is being done by administrators.

PR 101. If you want to be an official project supported by many and used by many. Don’t have your flagship deployment hard attached to a controversial subject. Which you should know damn well it is. Second don’t have it administered with a Vanguard mindset. It drives people off. Look I’d be happy to discuss failings and successes of different ml regimes as well as Western capitalist and Democratic socialists. Realistically that can’t be done on your instance. Typically any inkling of discussing failures gets outright denied and usually bans are applied.

Go ahead, Rebrand as lemmy.org. Go ahead and have ml communities. They can even be Echo Chambers still too. Even Lemmy.world has ml communities. The reason that I respect @MrKaplan@lemmy.world and the world team. And would happily donate to them if they needed it. Despite possibly not agreeing politically as an anarchist. Is there administration. It’s thoughtful, deliberative, and sparing. Not vanguardist and cliquish. And it’s no coincidence the administrative flaws are shared with political ideology flaws.

This is it. Right now. This is your golden moment. You’re the lead developer for one of the most popular software platforms on a rapidly growing Federated system. You’re blowing up. You’re trying to go bigger. It’s a position that is yours to lose. And it’s your right and duty to choose. Do you want to be a footnote, or do you want to be a whole chapter? Do you want to be a possible big mover and shaker in Foss? Or is it ml Club forever, and long live the vanguard?

Being inclusive is hard, tolerance is hard, that’s why both are so valued. Believe me I know, I’m not perfect. Any deployment that is going to be seen as a flagship should also strive for that if they want support from disparate groups. And that’s just how it is. There is no debate or discussion to have on the topic.

  • Many larger foss projects roll out Point releases to a trusted circle of volunteer testers. I’m sure there’s plenty of people running many different sized instances who enjoy being on the latest greatest version of software. If I was currently running an instance. I would probably number myself among them. I do run many servers. Just not currently any for lemmy/mastodon Etc. However it’s pretty common/normal practice.

  • Whether it’s the primary or not doesn’t really change things.

It could just as easily be rolled out to a select circle of instances that wish to help with the testing, as many other foss projects do. Funding them developing it is one thing. Funding such a bad echo chamber another. This ethical and image problem is what will stop adoption of the software, and is already driving plenty of people away. Or to mbin/kbin, pifed, miskey etc. There are plenty of people I would not recommend Lemmy to because of these issues. It is unfortunately however their repo and codebase to mismanage. And our money not to donate.
