All it takes is putting a SODIMM socket into the device instead of soldering in the RAM, making it possible to salvage the device if the RAM begins to fail. It’s a basic laptop, meant for browsing/writing documents, I can’t really see anyone swapping in 16 gb of ram to a device like this, and seeing any performance uplift.

The laptop is built on an A18 Pro, a mobile chip first seen in the iPhone 16 Pro, which limits the machine to 8 GB of RAM. Storage comes in 256 or 512 GB, and whichever one you buy is the one you keep.

They could have easily made the RAM and Storage user serviceable/upgradeable, and from what I can find, they don’t provide a way for the enduser to expand storage with a secondary SSD/HDD either, so you’re either forced to carry around an external hard drive for a product that is meant to be portable, or use cloud storage where you might not always have reliable access to the internet/data caps.Anecdotal, but the only component that has ever failed on me is a hard drive, if that happened to me on the new mac book, it would be e-waste.
I actually thought your instance was dead for a while. Kind of funny finding out it’s still around on a post about another instance being offline.

Funny that an anti-mask group asked him to speak considering that him and Teller filmed this. https://youtu.be/RfdZTZQvuCo

2·1 year agoIt shows for me, are you accidently filtering it out because of how you’re sorting posts?

Have you checked that you haven’t blocked the person posting?
Also, those posts in the signed out view all have the English tag set, you may need to go into your settings and add English to your selected languages. Keep Undetermined selected as a fallback for when people do not set a language for their posts/comments.
Bots advertising crypto scam. If you look at the first comments they’re essentially all the same nonsense and just adding in random buzz words associated with crypto/ai.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Out of curiosity can we get a link on the side to the communities we are subscribed to? If you feel the same way who do I contact about this?English
1·2 years agoYour subscription list is hidden when you’re currently viewing a community or a user’s profile. It should be at the bottom of your sidebar on the right if you’re on https://lemmy.world/ or whatever instance your account belongs to when using the default desktop view.
You can also use something like https://old.lemmy.world/ and your subscriptions will be in the dropdown in the upper left under “my communities”. This can be viewed even when viewing another community/user’s profile.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Don't Upvote but I came from reddit. So use to doing r whatever what is the equivalent on lemmy?English
10·2 years agoA little more complicated than that, if you want to go to a community hosted on your instance (in your case lemmy.ml), you would go to
https://lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy. This is different from the Ask lemmy hosted at lemmy.world.To navigate to this community hosted on lemmy.world from your instance, you would instead use
https://lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy@lemmy.world<your_instance>/c/<community>@<instance_hosting_community>Using an “!” !asklemmy@lemmy.world lets you create a clickable link for other people to a specific community.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to directly report users/communities set up for spam like this.

There usually isn’t a benefit to having your virtual controller set as a DS4 Controller unless the game actually has support for ds4. (usually minor extra features like touch pad support but that’s rarely used anyways).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one getting agitated by the word AI?English
121·2 years agoA lot of the comments I’ve seen promoting AI sound very similar to ones made around the time GME was relevant or cryptocurrency. Often, the conversations sounded very artificial and the person just ends up repeating buzzwords/echo chamber instead of actually demonstrating that they have an understanding of what the technology is or its limitations.

It was more so a comment that they could have used a connector for the ram to make it user serviceable, instead of soldered on, and I combined it with a sentence that the storage should be user serviceable and upgradable instead of making my earlier comment overly explicit/wordy. The quote I took from ifixit right above even says that the mobile chip is why it was limited to 8 GB of RAM.
Some changes would have to the layout be made to accommodate fitting a physical stick instead of just the soldered modules, but there’s CAD software that plots traces, so that really shouldn’t be an issue.
