Um say what? Lichens are a complex composite life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus and an algae or cyanobacterium. Scabs on a rock! The disrespect!

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I saw a turd on my way home from work!
6·1 month ago“Everybody loves my cybertruck, they’re always taking pictures of it.”
Oh yeah it’s not necessarily a listen to your elders post. Often they actually are full of it. Just sometimes when you think “this old bat is crazy” you’ll grow up to realize they were 100% right. It’s very difficult or impossible to tell which is which at the time.

222·2 months agoIran is such a beautiful country. I’ve watched people motorcycle and bicycle through it on YouTube and the people are so kind and warm. It’s really upsetting the way America wields it’s might.

Technology@lemmy.world•The U.S. Is Launching a Regulatory Assault on Drone Users | New restrictions try to shield ICE from being watched from above.English
8·2 months agoUkraine has proven even consumer grade drones are super key in modern warfare. Therefore our government would really not like it’s populace to have them.
Some australian raptors will deliberately spread wildfires to hunt. So they probably cook some food, but it’s not intentionally for that reason.
Yeah there’s enough political news happening these days that I wish we would keep the postings to actual news, instead of you’ll never guess what he said about her or she said about him, OMG he is so burned this time!
I’m pretty sure that’s the smell they’re talking about, they make more of it when disturbed or crushed but it’s always a tiny bit there. But pretty sure that’s the smell they’re speaking of.

Europe@feddit.org•US to bankroll far-right think tanks in Europe against digital lawsEnglish
2·2 months agoThe two things are definitely not separate, the funds for an empire almost always come from the populace. They bankroll the empire, and the rich keep the profits.
That type of stuff didn’t happen to me, but I saw it happening to others. That’s mostly why I left. Also I used the app Boost for Reddit, which became Boost for Lemmy so that helped me find an alternative and Reddit choosing corporate fascism helped me not look back.

"Language, too, forces the air from the lungs. Beyond the high walls and barbed wire and checkpoints that pen this place, there is the empire. And the empire as well is cocooned inside its own fortress of language. A language through the prism of which buildings are never destroyed but rather spontaneously combust in which blasts come and go like Chinooks over the mountain, and people are killed as though to be killed is the only natural and rightful ordering of their existence as though living was an aberration.
And this language might protect the empire’s most bloodthirsty fringe, but the fringe has no use for linguistic malpractice. It is instead the middle, the liberal, well-meaning, easily upset middle that desperately needs the protection this kind of language provides.
Because it is the middle of the empire that must look upon this and say, yes, this is tragic, but necessary, because the alternative is barbarism, the alternative of the countless killed and maimed and orphaned and left without home; without school, without hospital, and the screaming from under the rubble and the corpses disposed of by vultures and dogs and days old babies left to scream and starve is barbarism."
