Nah truth be told the factories that produce the sterile screwworms, in Panama and Mexico, didn’t have the capacity to breed enough sterile screwworms. They were producing like 1m/month and they actually needed 3m/month to stay ahead of it, something like that. Now production is ramping up but the invasion has been faster.

The science includes gender (“male flies”), I could absolutely see the program getting cut just for that.
