The pace at my job is so damn slow, I only do about four hours of actual work in a 40-hour week. Most of my time is spent waiting for my boomer coworkers to do their jobs, I finish my work blazingly fast by comparison. I could ask for extra work to do, but nah. I keep getting good performance reviews and raises, and this is the most stress-free job I’ve ever had.

Back when I was in management my number one advice to the folks under my leadership was “care less”. Like sure even from a management position it isn’t hard to see that becoming emotionally invested in work is the easiest way for a missed sale to ruin someone’s week. But from the human perspective its like, why care so much? You barely make a fraction of a percent of the total value of your labor here, tip the scales, give them the bare minimum of labor and stop caring so much.

Got fucked over by 4 employers over 5 years to learn this lesson.

Your boss doesn’t give a fuck about you. They will drop you and steal your Annual Leave right out from under you, even if you think you are their friend.

Look out for yourself, and don’t be scared of changing jobs, I stuck with a place because they were ‘good to me’ but they ended up folding and leaving me in the dust.

Yeah. I work in IT. Or worked. I’m not sure anymore.

I was doing level 1 support on the phone for a few years and was able to put a bit of money aside during the pandemic.

A few months ago my employer took a new client, an oil company. As I hate them with all my being, and the work was more about telling low wage employees to wait business hours instead of helping them, I quit.

I absolutely don’t miss Windows, Teams, Office, Microsoft products… Salesforce, Citrix, and all those. I’m so happy without them in my life.

But I need to pay rent and eat, so I started looking for work again and, OMFG, I really don’t want to go back to that shit.

I felt like this for a while. I was doing cool and interesting stuff… then i learned that my employer charges the people we contract me out to at $330/hr and i make no where near that. Burst that bubble real quick

Oh that I’m absolutely sure it’s happening, but I don’t have the reputation or the sales team to land clients on my own so I have to rely on the company
