For anyone else like me that needed to google who this group was

    PragerU - Wikipedia

“PragerU’s videos contain misleading or factually incorrect information promoting creationism, climate change denial, slavery and racism in the United States, immigration, and the history of fascism. PragerU has also been accused of promoting fascism, racism, sexism and anti-LGBT politics.”

I watched one PragerU YouTube video, just to see what all of the fuss was about. I have no idea if this is typical of most of their videos, but the one I watched was like this:

It features a group of teenagers, and one video covered one topic. The topic they covered was a controversial one where there is no clear right or wrong answer, but conservatives typically lean one way, while normal people lean the other way. I don’t think it was about gun control, but I’ll make it about gun control as an example.

Group of kids talking: “Did you hear about the school shooting?” “Yeah. My parents think the government should have stricter gun control.” “Oh, my parents think the problem is that there’s not enough security at the schools. But could guns themselves really be the problem?”

Scene changes to girl, talking authoritatively directly to camera: “No. Guns are not the problem. No school with metal detectors and armed guards has ever had a school shooting.”

(I just made up whatever sounded like something that they’d say. I assume the fact I made up is wrong.)

And then, it’s just like that, over and over. Kids bring up complicated issues, and some other kid just tells them the “right” answer, every time, giving the flimsiest explanation as if it’s the gospel truth.

I would characterize showing these videos to actual children as a form of child abuse. Poisoning their minds and inhibiting children’s ability to think for themselves.

That is PragerU’s typical approach to spreading their message - present something that is subject to interpretation as an immutable fact and then build an argument from there.

I think the idea is that if they can get the audience to accept that the foundation of their argument, even if it isn’t true, it becomes much harder to debunk the weaker points that support or reinforce it. The message will subtly sneak into their consciousness even if they would have disagreed with the overall premise initially, because they will walk away thinking that the people who made the video did their due diligence and researched the facts of the issue and wouldn’t lie about something so fundamental. It sows seeds of doubt, makes them question if the left-wing sources of news are reliable arbiters of truth or facts. Repeat it enough times, and it becomes full-on indoctrination.

It’s not far from a few conservative commentators methods: start with a flawed premise then extrapolate further and further into absurdity based on this flawed premise to argue for policies that can’t be reasonably defended

You say idiots like you’re immune. Every single one of us are experts in our own domain, but have neither the time nor the energy to become experts in all domains.

So we rely on other experts and the media to inform us, because that is historically their job. The media has unfortunately been co-opted by other interests, and has failed the public by spreading sensationalism and outright misinformation.

TLDR: Don’t point the finger at your fellow man, point the finger at those who’s job it was to inform them

I’d say that it’s not the media’s job to inform us anymore, it’s more to influence us and keep us docile. There are some small publications who still stick to informing people and telling the truth as objectively as they can but those are becoming fewer and fewer.

It sucks that it is this way but in a society where aunt Jo on Facebook can have a bigger audience spouting her nonsense then the local newspaper it is the way it is.

I hear that RFK Jr’s CDC cuts left no expert on Ebola in the government. No vaccine for that but it has a 90% mortality rate. Pros and cons.

      • Well, there’s no vaccine but it’s also “hard” to get it, since you need direct contact with a symptomatic individual’s body fluids.

I imagine the novax crew going all out to touch someone infected just to prove “the big pharma” wrong and since it’s really fast to kill, the rest of us just need to lock our doors for like one week until all these idiots are dying by milions.

Even if another country wanted to swoop in, that is specifically what the American nuclear arsenal is there to prevent. No one’s gonna eat nukes for America’s benefit.

At most, other countries could try to smuggle arms across the Canadian or Mexican border to help in a civil war – but Canada and Mexico might be reluctant to participate given that they might get dragged into the war. Also, it’s pretty damn hard to smuggle large quantities of gear without being noticed.

America in general is so heavily armed, what point would there be in smuggling arms into America? Coals and Newcastle and all that.

If we decide to tear ourselves apart, we’ve already got plenty of the tools required right at hand.

Assuming a civil war, the side a given government wants to support might not have the backing of the army. And honestly, in a war scenario a bunch of dudes with AR-15s are going to do jack shit against tanks, UAVs, and actively defended military installations. Few people have TOWs at home, much less anything BVR capable. The army, meanwhile, is perfectly capable of burying a militia under missiles from a hundred miles away.

Given what we’ve learned from Ukraine, the most reasonable weapon to smuggle into a warring USA would be tons of cheap suicide drones. Small enough to possibly get in unnoticed (unlike, say, an MLRS battery), capable of taking out armored vehicles and strategic targets, cheap enough to manufacture at scale.

They rely on a very small fraction of a percentage of the population to run the show. It is not hard to destabilise that and cause fear for others thinking about stepping in to replace that judge or town councillor.
