Watching A Place Further Than The Universe plus some positive experiences at around the time I first watched it made me appreciate certain types of travel and going outside.

My rating history reflected it. Originally, it’s an almost-masterpiece 9/10. Now it’s my #4 best overall and a regular to-rewatch.

I think the closest I’ve come is wanting to go camping after watching Yuru Camp. I bought a bunch of camping stuff, arranged with a friend to go camping, and then he flaked out and we never went. I used a bunch of it with my wife recently though (over a year later), so at least it wasn’t wasted.

Thanks for posting all these discussion questions btw.

A long time ago I watched shounen only, I didn’t know any better. I randomly started watching Gintama and I realised that I liked the non-action parts a lot. It made me interested in things that weren’t mostly action and was the first step of me getting into slice of life anime. And SOL made me more interested in daily life and existing. That sounds ridiculous but hey.

Weird recommendation, but Blood Blockade Battlefront. Kinda action-y, but also largely surreal urban fantasy slice of life. English dub is fantastic, mainly due to Zapps voice actor.

How Heavy Are The Dumbells You Lift got me to start working out.

Bocchi the Rock made me buy a guitar.

    I’m impressionable I guess

I also bought a guitar after watching Bocchi. I always wanted to learn an instrument and this show just started the train of thought that led me to buying one, so it wasn’t the sole reason but it was the spark that I needed. Coincidentally, I even bought a Pacifica, just like Bocchi (my is cheaper one, though)

How Heavy Are The Dumbells You Lift wasn’t able to get me to start working out - because I was already working out.

I’d imagine Umamusume got plenty of people into either IRL horseracing or running.

Personally, I watched the more hyped races - including some that haven’t been adapted to anime yet.

    My favourites include:

    1. the 2013 Arima Kinen featuring Orfevre and Gold Ship
    2. the 2020 Japan Cup which pitted 3 triple crown winners against each other: Almond Eye who had 8 G1 wins under her belt, Contrail who was an undefeated triple crown and Daring Tact who was an undefeated triple tiara.

A more meta one is Gundam: Witch from Mercury starting my real interest in anime.

Every time Overlord gets a new volume release it gives me the itch to play an MMO again. Thankfully I’ve been WoW-free for years but it did get me to try FFXIV and GW2, the latter of which I’m still casually playing to this day.

I loved A Place Further Than The Universe! I feel that Run Like the Wind had a similar vibe, with very likeable characters that I was rooting for the whole time.

Sword Art Online came out either before or around the same time Oculus did it’s kickstarter and I’ve been a VR degenerate ever since.

I never even thought about VR before that, but the idea that I could one day be totally immersed in a world where I could do anime level stuff is something that still sounds so cool. I’ll probably be dead before we get SAO level VR, but some experiences like VR in racing games are already incredibly immersive.

this is a particularly good one. on top of that, (though this may have been a different anime), there was the introduction of VR as a form of hospice / terminal and immobile patient care. …which is cool as shit.

Kind of the opposite for me. Blue Gender made it very clear to me that I have no interest in giant bugs that only die when you shoot them in the clitoris.
