My son once saw a penis on accident and now all he does is play video games. Societal collapse is at our doorstep! Act now!

We need to adopt the Japanese way to buy stuff with cash. You get a bar code, take it to a convenience store, scan, pay. Clerk doesnt even know what it is. Just, yup, paid for, donezo. 7-11 could offer it and make bank, like how gas stations make a grip on sodas and the like from folks going in to pay for gas.

        Freedom ain’t free…

Other countries do it and they are fine.

To choice what’s more important to you but Americans as whole clearly would rather live under the boot like the obedient dogs that they are 🤡

If people had to leave their home to pay for a Steam purchase, they’d buy a lot less. But considering how many unplayed games I have, it’s not like that would be such a bad thing… Lol

In Japan, most of the convenience stores are very well distributed making it that you often times have one close-by. Additionally, a lot of those convenience stores are 24/7 open. With it being open any time and having it close-by, it is still convenient enough if you can muster to go to a store and pay by cash. If you live in the city for example, you have one that only takes 1 to 10 minutes by foot.

I really don’t think this kind of maneuver from payment processors should be allowed at all.

Or maybe there should simply be a more diverse array of payment processors?

On the one hand, they’re a workaholic culture that basically doesn’t allow for a social or family life, so obviously their population is aging and the last ethnically Japanese person is going to be born in 2042.

On the other hand, they might just have a point.

Visa and Mastercard were under no obligation to give in to this group, yet they did. They are equally culpable in this whole fiasco.

In my honest opinion Wero is not the solution to this specific problem either.
They could potentially also unilaterally decide that they won’t allow payments for specific types of purchases (Though they are still preferable to relying in American payment providers).

The real solution is proper regulation of payment providers that blocks them from refusing service.

There is EMPSA, EuroPA and EPI’s Wero. It seems like EMPSA and EuroPA share some members between them and EuroPA and EPI are in a partnership. So kind of indirectly they are working together.

I think the reason Wero is getting attention is because its branded the same in all currently served countries/banks(?, I think), instead of just your banks/mobile apps being branded differently in each country but still being in an alliance on the backend.

the entire point of the empsa is building a network of compatible apps so that people don’t have to switch. the bank alliance-backed payment apps have already mostly captured their respective national markets, and getting a new actor into that market is goung to take a huge amount of effort. empsa also has actors in fifteen countries, while wero is in three.
