In your scenario where the Republicans suck but the Democrats suck just as much, what’s the end solution. Like if you Really think that who are you voting for next time? Starting your own party? Just sitting it out and complaining online? I think that’s why people are down voting these posts.

It’s just trashing the victims in this case. No one thinks they should have gone back but realistically they had to go home to their families at some point. Also Texas State Congress people aren’t considered a full time job so I am pretty sure some of them had jobs they need to go back to at some point to pay their bills. They are constrained by the same system we all are.

Also the broader plan is that other democratic states will be redistricting now to offset the change.

    • The end solution is to kick both of these corrupt parties to the curb and replace them with people who’ll actually work to represent the American people. Anything less is just a continuation of all this nonsense and the ratchet effect of things constantly getting worse and never improving.

These Texas legislators aren’t victims here. They’re wealthy people who could afford to run for office in one of the largest states in the nation. They chose to run as public representatives but are doing anything but. You make it sound like they’re part time McDonalds employees who live paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford to miss a shift or they’ll be out on the street.

The broader plan here is for both of these private parties to gerrymander their states, shutting out any sort of competition, and people here are cheering it on like it’s a good thing. This is the same warped mentality that had supposed leftists cheering for genocide and trying to dogpile on anyone who spoke out against it just this last November. The same warped mentality that has people consistently voting against their own best interests while mocking “the other side” for doing the exact same thing. You’re witnessing two conquerors divvying up their spoils not two enemies duking it out.

Regardless of how terrible the Republican party is, it doesnt make Democrats the good guys, and they keep showing us time and time again that they’re perfectly fine betraying the American people for their, and their wealthy master’s, own personal gain.

I’m all for changing the way elections work in this country. First past the post is an objectively terrible way to do democracy, and there are more than a few better systems available.

But how do you get to those systems, and what do you do in the meantime? Sure, third party candidates can sometimes squeak by in smaller local races, and they should! That’s a great way to build up power and credibility and try to make larger changes! But that process is not going to happen overnight, and something has to be done in the meantime. That’s where harm reduction and choosing your opposition tells us we must vote for Democrats if a viable alternative is not available. You can plan to break Democrats’ duopoly of power with Republicans, but until that day comes you’ve got to acknowledge the political realities and that you would rather oppose a Democrat in power than a Republican in power.

Unless you’re an accelerationist who wants things to get worse, faster, so that a collapse or civil war will happen sooner, in which case I’m not sure we’ve got much of anything we’ll agree on.
