The death of a man fleeing an immigration raid at a Home Depot sparked anger among immigrant rights advocates: 'We hold the Trump administration, the Department of Homeland Security and the Home Depot responsible,' one group said.

A man was hit and killed on the 210 Freeway on Thursday as he tried to flee federal agents raiding a Home Depot in Monrovia, CA.

      Romero, the UCLA professor, said the Home Depot operation appeared to be in violation of the federal court order barring the government from carrying out these types of raids. Last month, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing federal agents from carrying out indiscriminate immigration arrests based on a person’s race, language, vocation or location.

      They are chasing a person for no crime. They believe he is illegal. No proof, just brown skin. That is racially profiling which is illegal. Also a judge told them to stop this shit bc it is illegal. It’s in the article.

        It’s obvious, not sure what the other person is talking about. Literally the same mentality that if someone is innocent, they should comply with everything and hide nothing, no matter how unreasonable. That’s not right, we should be holding those in positions of authority to a higher standard than those who are not.

        Frimpong ordered federal agents not to use those factors to establish reasonable suspicion to detain people. And that all those in custody at a downtown detention facility known as B-18 must be given 24-hour access to lawyers and a confidential phone line.

        The man who died was not actually detained, so it doesn’t seem to me that his rights were violated even if detaining him would have violated his rights. He wasn’t even being chased, as far as I can tell from the article - he ran on his own when he heard that ICE agents were coming. Are you proposing that (in the absence of qualified immunity) cops should be sued for something that they didn’t do, but which this man suspected that they might do?

          Please read the article again. Two paragraphs above your quote. Your rights can be violated even if not detained. Stop and frisk was famous for this.
